Now my child is using SAMi but it is not effective. Specifically, the SAMi machine detects seizures when there is strong movement. But when my child has a seizure, his body becomes stiff, his lips move and he lies in one place. So the machine does not alarm. I want to ask how can I detect if my child has a seizure?

Hi An, You can adjust the camera to become more sensitive to subtle motion by adjusting the motion threshold to a lower percentage. Our camera is not designed to work with no motion so you want the camera's field of view to be focused on the location where there is motion. If that is only on the lips, then you would want to make sure the camera has a clear view of the lips. Why does this not work with Android devices? This seems extremely targeted and not at all inclusive for everyone. People shouldn't have to purchase an overpriced device to use the camera to monitor their child and should be able to connect it to a pc or laptop as well to monitor.

Hi There, We understand where you are coming from and it's something we are actively working on. SAMi was founded by the parents of a child with Epilepsy and is still family owned and operated. The father and CTO of SAMi only knows how to code for iOS so we were limited by that. We are taking steps to actively begin creating an Android App a desktop version, but it takes time, money, and resources. Do you need wifi to work the camera

Hi Jessica, You need a Wifi signal but you do not need an internet connection. You can do this with a standalone router or we sell a preconfigured SAMi Router that automatically connects to the SAMi Camera, is completely offline (more secure), and allows you to travel to places without internet or access to a router. Can you hardwire Internet? I don’t want to worry about WiFi not working while I’m sleeping.

Hi Laura, yes, you can hardwire the camera to a router using an ethernet cable. However, the Apple device will need to use Wifi unless your home is equipped with ethernet jacks in your house. If it is, then you can get an Apple device to ethernet adaptor and hardwire that as well. We have users that do this!

My daughter has just recently started having seizures. She has autism and prior to falling asleep she is constantly moving around. Head movements, flapping, etc. How would this work in that situation??

Hi Kali, The SAMi Alert system is highly customizable and allows you to adjust your settings to ignore normal sleep activities such as head movements, rolling over, or shifting around at night. Since SAMi looks for continuous motion to alert after a custom amount of time, you can play with this setting to ignore motion that isn't continuous past that determined amount of time! When the camera red line is going up and down. What is it doing???

That is the 'Alarm Threshold'. That red line goes up as the criteria to trigger an alarm are being met for the duration of time you set. Once that red line crosses your threshold marker, an alarm will be triggered.

Can you use a Motorola phone with this or is an iPhone the only option

Hi Kelli - Great question. Unfortunately the SAMi monitoring app only works on Apple iOS at this time. You can purchase any used or refurbished iphone/ipod/ipad capable of running iOS 11. If you need help identifying one head to our website and send us a chat! We also have funding available through our partners to get you an iOS device as well if needed. Hope that helps!
