“The problem I had with Selco concerns VAT. If you go to their warehouse in Kingston upon Thames all the prices down the aisles are without VAT added. And then when you go to the checkout they had the VAT. I queried why they list prices throughout the store without VAT being added which is normal. They said that builders don't pay VAT and therefore they don't charge VAT which is why the prices are VAT-free. But for private individuals and homeowners they charge VAT and that's why they charged me.
But the man was lying because I spoke to a very good builder today and he said that he pays VAT at Selco as do other builders. They just recover it in running their business. And therefore, Selco at Kingston upon Thames are misleading the public because they are pricing their goods on the shelves without adding VAT which is misleading.
If you purchased £200 worth of goods from this warehouse you would find that you pay £40 more when you hit the checkout. That is something you don't want to happen.
Typically, as mentioned, all shops throughout the UK show prices on the shelves that include VAT. Therefore I have to give this store a one star because they are in breach of a fundamental rule and it concerns money. Plus, the man lied to me. I can say that with complete confidence. That is not a defamatory remark because it is true.”
“Unprofessional people working for Selco Old Kent Road. Delivery driver very rude and with no education. The costumer support are not prepared to do their jobs. Only the good prices and the quality of materials are keeping open this branch. The manager doesn’t exist or incompetent.”

However every time I go into the Shirley, West Midlands store there is always an argument regarding price match that they agreed to, even when I show proof. I highly discourage ordering anything for delivery from Selco! You will be disappointed and out of pocket several days for paid labour for absolutely nothing! What a waste of time, for myself and my tradesmen. All for waiting and chasing your delivery! This is the third and final time they have royally screwed up my order.
3 separate occasions, I’ve requested delivery of doors/ fencing materials. And each time the order failed to deliver the day they agreed to, absolutely 0 time frame provided, only partial deliveries of the order made without being informed at all when they would arrive, leaving things open to theft when dumped at the front of the property, no notification or communication for whenever things weren’t able to be delivered (due to being out of stock, busy drivers, whatever excuse) and I was often left having to spend my chasing them for updates, with difficulty getting through at all for several days for the missing parts of my order!?
Do NOT shop at Selco. It’s worth paying more elsewhere, e.g. Travis Perkins who will respect their customer and actually fulfill the service and delivery time they say they will do!!”
“Ordered on friday, received the delivery notice for next monday. Monday morning the member of staff called me that they driver didn't show up for work so they will deliver on wednesday morning as a first stop. It's wednesday now, I called selco what time they will arrive, guy said at 9 AM. Its 12 PM, delivery nowhere. My workers sitting here doing nothing, waiting for material. But I need to pay for their time. Selco its a waste of time and my money, won't order from them ever again. Builders depot are much more reliable.”
