“I came into this course as a complete beginner with no coding background, so the idea of building a live application felt entirely out of reach. By the end, I had built two apps entirely from scratch: a food delivery app, and a social media monitoring tool of my own choice.
What surprised me most was how approachable it all felt. Rather than getting bogged down in every technical detail, the course gave me just enough of the fundamentals to see the big picture of how everything fits together, like how HTML shapes the design, JavaScript pulls data from the database, React and Next.js handle the navigation, and Supabase stores everything behind the scenes. We set up all our own accounts during class, and because our trainer, Brandon guided us through every single step, none of it ever felt overwhelming. I came away actually understanding how apps work, and with a clear, repeatable developer workflow for turning an idea into a finished product.
The most rewarding part was building a tool that directly supports my daily work. My social media monitoring tool tracks post engagement from established news sources such as Mothership, The Straits Times and CNA, allowing me to spot viral topics and news trends early. On Brandon's recommendation, I even used an AI agent called Gumloop to scrape the news sources' social media pages, which worked remarkably well. Although I eventually ran out of credits on the platform, I now have all the tools and, more importantly, the confidence to continue building the application myself.”
