“They hold your card details, automatically take payment a week prior to your renewal, then take six days to refund. Answephone says they open at 8.30 when they open at 9am. They make it so hard to cancel or not renew policy, staff are rude and unhelpful. I will never purchase any insurance service from them again”
“Close brothers brokers for Swinton i had to cancel my insurance it cost me £56.00 thats with a cancellation fee of £30.00 card details taken paid up full. Checked my bank statement to find that Close bros/ Swinton had taken another fee for £ 82.40 from my bank without my consent ? Complaint made via my bank ! Swinton are a total rubbish company ....advice do not use !!!”
“Took out van insurance on the 13 th October 2021 costing £122.14
Told them I had to cancel policy because I had to retire due to lung disease ,I was told I had to pay arrears totalling £117.79
The other company I used listened and did not charge me for cancelling early ,”

After being a customer of this company for several years i am absolutely disgusted by them. I had a claim for a non fault accident and they have now increased my renewal from £220 to £1100. After speaking to another company and giving full details they have quoted £240 ????? A strongly worded email has been sent to the CEO and a complaint lodged with the insurance ombudsman.”
“Got a great price to start with run my van 8 months then it chucked it was basically scrap bought a car as van prices had been increased considerably and the new insurance company asked for proof of no claims contacted swinton after 30 mins on hold after connected to someone they wanted 88 pounds to cancel the policy held to ransom for MY NCB that I earned put under pressure basically to accept or I wouldn’t get anywhere feel robbed and cheated I would avoid at all costs if I needed van insurance ever again…..”

“I needed to speak to someone about making a claim for damage to my home.
1st time - 30 minutes on the phone, no answer.
2nd time - 40 minutes on the phone, no answer.
3rd time - 50 minutes on the phone which they answered and then sent me back on a loop waiting, stating I called the wrong number when I called the number given for claims.
I WILL NEVER USE SWINTON EVER AGAIN.
It will be stressful trying to get thru to someone to help.”
“I was insured with for 6 months until I changed my car. The website wouldn’t let me online to change so had to phone. When I provided them new car details they refused to insure it, car was only 2 years younger and same c.c. But they said it couldn’t be insured and I would need to go through a new quote! They then tried to charge 6.5x than the existing policy. So was forced to cancel the policy but they charged me cancellation fee, which I don’t feel they should’ve!
I checked online and all the main big companies, comparison sites etc all were only circa £100 more than my previous policy.
Now because I cancelled half way through I won’t gain NCD points and will have to wait 18 months until I gain more NCD!
Lesson learned do not use this company”

then they still taken the first month instalment from my bank. now ive got to get back in touch yet again for a full reimbursement. absolute incompetent company. void.”
“They cancelled my car insurance causing me nothing but headache. They asked for my driver summary which I sent, then a photo of my licence which I sent, then the same for my named driver which I sent, then cancelled it anyway saying the photo wasn't clear enough. I still have the emails I sent and they could not be any clearer! They now have the cheek to try charge me for cancelling. Absolute joke of a company, this all happen 6 weeks into my policy.”
“avoid swinton van insurance by any means possible. no sent me my renewal. been taking payments for months. tried to chase and cancel and they are trying to charge me hundreds for it. spent an hour on the phone to customer services. all in all terrible company”

recent claim for damage to my son's lap top screen was dealt with speedily and without any hassle. After making a call I answered a few questions and was called back within the hour. The Apple laptop was collected, repaired (by Apple ) and returned as good as new within 5 days. I am very happy with the service and glad I had taken out accidental damage on my policy.”
“Swinton are appalling at their service and problem solving. I have been dealing with them for over a year for a request of dual insurance form after realising that I had taken up two policies for the same property. I cancelled the other insurance and stayed with Swinton because they were slightly cheaper.
As a result the other company have requested for a dual insurance form to be completed to avoid charges. Despite several emails and phone calls, the problem hasn’t been solved. It’s left me with sleepless nights. As a result I also had to pay in Full the other company for the same insurance and duration, to avoid debt collectors harassing me.
I will NEVER use them again nor recommend them to anyone else in my family of friends.
Just imagine if this was for a claim. They are dishonest and not transparent.”
“We have Home emergency, first phoned on 22.10 to report a leak on our boiler. They sent a plumber (it’s illegal for them to do anything to the boiler but they still sent him) he said he would report back the part we needed. Tuesday we phoned again to see what was happening. They didn’t know how much we could claim back if we sorted our own engineer or how we go about claiming the money back. It was left that he would arrange an engineer. Phoned again today to be told they hadn’t arranged an engineer because we were arranging our own! That wasn’t what we had agreed, we were told an engineer would be here today. We were offer a hotel stay, portable heaters but no engineer, this company just cannot get any engineers to do the work for them so they either want you to sort your own or take up their offer of a hotel room for one night, they still wouldn’t have fix it in the one night they were offering. Absolute joke of a company. No one knows what they are doing.”
“Paid my late father's house insurance in full in one-off payment of £161. Cancelled policy 7 months later after house was sold. Instead of receiving a rebate for the remaining 5 months, Swinton demanded money from me which I wouldn't pay. They then had the audacity to ask when my house insurance was due so they could contact me with a quote. I told them not to bother.”
“Swinton - When you are unfortunate enough to face a damaged windscreen that cannot be repaired, Swinton only allow you to use one of two windscreen repair companies that they prefer unless you want to pay more toward the repair !! - The excess they state on the policy is not in some cases all you pay example is -> The replacement screen is £300 your excess is £75 and Swinton say we will pay up to £150 - Thats right YOU are going to pay the difference which in this case is £125 thats right , on top of the £75 you have to pay so thats £200 You pay in total, and because THEY dictate who repairs your screen when you request a repair you can be made to wait in excess of 8 days - we were !!! - why do Swinton care which windscreen company repairs your screen do they only trust these two companies - why isnt the policy simply worded to read WINDSCREEN REPAIR - we pay upto £150 for windscreen replacement you pay the difference and you must use our repairers otherwise we will pay less toward your repair? - my wife has a 7 day wait to repair and is also faced with driving her vehicle with what could be an illegal screen or not using her car during this period , ... Nice one Swinton !!!”
“They don't cover my area as if I live in a foreign country! Talk about integration and no child left in poverty well if people are given insurance quotes based on where they are born or live surely you are partly to blame for poverty and inequality in my area.
If you think my area is not worthy of insurance then get bulldozers and bring down to ground!”
