Light Ash Blonde over bleached nearly white hair. Love the color very in fashion as in all shades of silver and Ash.

A fabulous experience from website interaction, colourist consultations, receiving order, easy application and the colour results. I had used henna colouring within the last two months prior to this application, but as the henna process was too cumbersome I needed a better option and one that wasn’t filled with toxic chemicals. The Shade easily coloured my hair including my regrowth of greys! Very impressed, definitely recommend and have already passed details onto several friends. Thank you!

Colour came quick, packaged very well with all the necessary tools and with easy to follow instructions. Coloured my hair last night with MONTECRISTO - LIGHT ASH BROWN and very happy with the end results. My greys are gone and my hair looks shiny. I might need to change my choice of colour next time as I had blonde at the ends and it has turned a bit green but overall very happy and would purchase again.

The best home colouring products I have ever used. Great long lasting colour. Highly recommend.

I’m so glad I tried this. I was hesitant at first because my last few home dye jobs had left my hair a mess (brassy/greenish) and I thought this might be no different but how wrong I was! It was really pleasant and easy to apply and there wasn’t the usual strong chemical smell you get with other brands. It rinsed out easily and left my hair silky. And the best part was the colour! I used Imola 7.3 and it was exactly what I was hoping for, like a dark caramel blonde, and so rich and shiny as well.

Ash colours turned my hair red, tried 2 different ash shades but both had very red/orange tones. Using another brand of light ash brown and have no red tones.

Hi Sarah, There are no red tones at all in our Ash colours. We did explain to you that reddish/brassy colour pigments are naturally present in the hair and they are the last pigments which are lifted out of the hair during lightening, because they have the largest colour molecules. The best approach to correct visible brassiness is to add some depth and cool tones. Adding a bit of depth means that the colour does not have to lift so much and that it is more likely to achieve an accurate, 'true' colour result. Cool tones will counter-act and neutralise unwanted warmth. Some people's hair also naturally throws more warmth than others. We recommended a medium cool brown colour for you, as you did report some brassy tones initially, but unfortunately you didn't try that colour. Different brands classify their colours differently, so you could be using a colour which is described as light brown now but which is closer to our medium brown - unless they are categorised using the exact same classification system, then they can't be compared because they don't necessarily have the same base colour level. I hope that helps. Camilla Colourist - The Shade
I’m totally converted to this brand! No itchy scalp, no strong smells and I love my colour! My hair felt beautiful after and it’s been 2 weeks and the colour is still great. I want to purchase also the shampoo and conditioner next as the smaller packs I used felt so healthy on my scalp and hair. Mine was Montecristo

The website is user-friendly and the product is wonderful. The colour at my hairdresser was not covering my stubborn grey hair but the colour from The Shade does a much better job and is a 5th of the price. I will not be going back to the hairdresser.

For reference, I ordered 6.1 which is in line with my natural hair colour but I would actually give it 1 star because it did a terrible job at covering my greys. Even after leaving on for extra time as per the instructions. And yes I know they do a grey softener but that’s an extra expense and step that I don’t need to do with another PPD and ammonia free dye I used. So going back to that one. Was really excited to try this after reading the reviews but really disappointed.

Hi Courtney, Sorry you weren't happy with your grey coverage. As you may know, the outer layer of greys are often coarser and their outer cuticle layer is more tightly packed, which makes it harder for greys to absorb the colour. Poor absorption leads to poor colour results. Pre-softening softens and lifts the cuticles before colouring and is an effective approach to stubborn, colour-resistant greys. We are also adding a 27 vol developer in about a week which is specifically developed to cover colour-resistant greys, and that would give you excellent colour coverage over resistant greys without requiring another step, product or process. That will be available next week, and we will let everyone know when that is available. Camilla The Shade
Good packaging and instructions. Nice to receive a full application kit. Easy to apply and use products. Things I wasn't so happy with... The Cape provided was nothing like the one in the video...really wish companies would show what customer will receive (same with conditioner and shampoo...initially thought I would receive a whole bottle...quickly assumed that would not be the case). Dye seemed to stain my hairline quite a lot and more than some box supermarket products...it fades but not a good look if you dye hair the day of an event etc. Turned my greys copper! Never had this happen before. I used an extra developer as recommended. Did good coverage just weren't dark brown. My head did burn/tingle a bit from the product which I was surprised at as it was free from the bad chemicals. Overall it was ok. I am considering whether I will use again. Feel like supermarket box products are better or similar and I can get them a lot cheaper on sale. Just have to consider the chemical free aspect but then more products are coming out like this now. Not sure what I expected but was nothing amazing.

Dear Anita, Thanks for your feedback. Full-sized bottles of conditioner are available, but we provide a sachet only of the Colour Protection Shampoo and Conditioner in our Colour Kits. We don't provide a full bottle of shampoo and conditioner with each colour kit! In regard to staining, we provide a sachet of Barrier Oil to apply to your hairline to prevent staining. We are wondering if you applied the Barrier Oil? We also provide a Colour Remover Wipe to clean up any stains or mess after the application. Going by the colour consultation you completed. you selected a neutral colour, which is is lighter than your natural colour. Lightening always reveals natural warmth, so the warmth you saw in your colour result is natural warmth, revealed during lightening. There is no copper tones in the colour you selected, but there are also no cool tones. Cool tones are essential when lightening as lightening always reveals natural warmth, and cool tones will balance and mute the warmth. So we would have recommended a cool based colour which would have given you a neutral colour result. We also recommend that you do a sensitivity test before you use the product, to ensure that the product is suitable for you to use without any reactions. If you had done the sensitivity test then you could have avoided using the product because it appears that you may have a reaction to an ingredient in our colour formulas. While we have eliminated the major irritants commonly found in colour products, you could have a reaction to any ingredient, even an ingredient which is not an major allergen, which is why it is critical to do a sensitivity test before using the colour. Best Regards, Camilla from The Shade
The consultation service was fantastic - prompt and excellent advice. The colour that was recommended for me was perfect! The instructions were clear and easy to understand, making the application process stress free. The end result was amazing! I highly recommend this service to anyone who wants to colour at home - besides the amazing advice and customer service, the prices are excellent!

Didn’t help with my grey hairs!

Hi Karen, Sorry you didn't achieve the colour coverage you were after. We are adding a 27 vol developer in a few days time which is specifically developed to cover colour resistant greys. This new 27 vol developer is very effective in achieving grey coverage over stubborn greys. Unfortunately it can be harder to cover greys, as their outer cuticle layer is more tightly packed, and greys can have a coarser texture which makes it more difficult for the colour to be absorbed. We will be advising everyone shortly when the 27 vol will be available. Camilla
Very easy to use salon quality dye. Good grey coverage

First of all, came in really quickly. Was easy to apply, instructions were easy to follow. I ordered with the colour apply kit which made things simple. Colour itself was gentle on the hair and didn’t smell chemically. Happy with the results. Will order again.

Absolutely love it but if there was more colour options to choose from it would be better I was wanting a deep red colour but wasn't able to find it

The product did not work for me at all. The colour did not take. My greys were totally visible and barely looked covered.

Hi Sharmila, Sorry you didn't get the coverage you were looking for. You coloured with Montecristo 6.1, but in the colour quiz you indicated that your colour was dark brown and that you had existing colour in your hair. We advise everyone with a clear warning provided in the quiz process or directly from a colourist, that we recommend a bleach wash to lift out older, darker pigments, which will then let you achieve a lighter base colour level, as colour cannot lighten pre-existing colour, only a lightening process can do that. So, unfortunately, you can't colour with a lighter colour and achieve a lighter result if you already have a darker colour in your hair. Only a separate lightening process will let you achieve a lighter base colour, as you first need to remove the darker pigments before recolouring with a lighter colour. This advice is provided in the colour selection quiz, and our colourists advise the same (with more detail and specific recommendations). In terms of the grey coverage, using a standard 20vol developer our colour can lift by 2 levels. Your dark brown may have been out of range of the light brown colour. You are likely to need a stronger developer to achieve the level 6 result over your natural colour, and perhaps also to cover stubborn greys. We are adding a new 27 vol developer in the next week or two which is specifically formulated to cover stubborn greys, which would be an excellent option for you. It can also lift closer to 3 colour levels, so it can lift a dark/darkest brown level to light brown. So we can certainly help you achieve complete coverage of your stubborn greys. In terms of your colour selection, please contact our colourists here https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ and they can advise a colour and application which will help you achieve your colour goals. I hope this helps!
