I have read that the machine has many side effects and the one that concerns me most is the feeling of not being able to breath out and causing panic attacks, has anyone had this experience too?

There are some side effects of every treatment however these are often far outweighed by the risks of untreated sleep apnoea. Many of the side effects never come to fruition.
There is certainly resistance on exhalation however with regular use this becomes easy to tolerate. Panic can occur however with the right introduction and coping mechanism put in place and on going support this can be overcome. Panic attacks to be clear are a very rare hurdle.
