My wife and I participated on a Viking cruise (Elbe) for the first time, The boats used are smaller than others in the fleet to allow navigation on the Elbe. This gave us opportunity to meet new friends, with whom we still keep touch! We had used other river cruise operators in the past that we thought were excellent. The Viking experience moved that up by another couple of notches! The only problem arising from our cruise were in the latter stages when river water levels were low and the boat couldn't complete it's schedule: not a Viking fault as the markers across the river clearly indicated no navigation beyond this point. We have booked another Viking cruise this year (Rhine from Switzerland to Amsterdam) so expecting to be completely satisfied again!

Our first experience of a river cruise was two years ago from Budapest through Austria, Germany and Holland was everything me hoped for and more . A fantastic holiday, and a small snippet of local cuisine and a truly memorable experience.

We had a superb cruise with Viking down the Danube. Everything was just perfect. So much so that we have booked our next 2 cruises, this year the River Elbe and next year on the cruise ship from Venice to Istanbul.

Our first Viking cruise exceeded all our expectations. We spent our time saying "this is the life, we could get used to this", and booked another cruise!

A very enjoyable and relaxing week sailing from Amsterdam to Basle. The daily briefings were very informative as were the onshore excursions lead by knowledgable local Guides. The accommodation in cabins was comfortable and clean, with picture window being great to be able to view outside locations and scenery. Food on board was plentiful and of a high standard, great to be given bottled water each time we set off on an excursion. We appreciated the opportunity to always have coffee, tea and snacks easily accessible. Staff were professional, approachable and friendly at all times. We felt the spoken suggestion in the farewell briefing of the tips we should be given unnecessary.

The ship was first rate, all the crew were only too pleased to help in whatever was required. Am definitely going on two more this year.

The Viking staff set themselves very high standards and consistently meet them. Our last cruise was the Grand European Tour and grand it was too. Inspired by the comfort of the ships, the attentiveness of the staff, the excellent shore excursions and of course the wonderful food, we never fail to enjoy ourselves enormously and always meet new friends in the process.

Disappointed in lack of hot vegetarian options on the lunch and dinner menus. Everything else was excellent.

We have been on three Viking cruises and have booked another one. We love them and are very impressed with Viking. The ships are very comfortable and the staff really look after you. The food is excellent and you are given generous amounts of wine or beer with your meals. The cabins are not large but very comfortable and have every convenience. Cabin staff do a very good job at servicing the room and there is even a "turn down" service in the evening which is a nice touch. Another nice touch is the way in which the crew welcome you back on board every time you return from an excursion, usually with a drink, a nibble and hot towels. All the cruise directors we have met are exceptionally good at their job and very personable. Life on board is very friendly and you meet lots of like-minded, interesting people. On a river cruise there is something interesting to see every day - no sea days and no sea sickness either! We have recommended Viking river cruises to lots of people and if you are thinking of doing a river cruise I would say you can't do better than choose Viking.

Portrait of Southern France - as usual the service and friendliness from every member of your team was outstanding both on board the boat and your backroom staff taking the booking. Only one niggle concerning this trip was the wine tasting experience in Beaune. We had expected to visit a chateau, see the vineyards where the vines were growing and taste the wines with a Sommelier - what we got was a visit to a shop in a town - went down in their basement to taste wines (lacking the experience, ambience and finesse we were hoping for) - and then up into the shop to purchase. The Beaune winetasting was in complete contrast to that experienced in Chateauneuf-du-pape. The food and wine on the Viking Buri was outstanding.

Everything was well organised from our arrival at Munich airport to our departure in Budapest. The staff on board the Njord were excellent, so helpful and courteous. The guides were very well informed and in general kept our interest with just the right amount of detail. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and look forward to our next Viking cruise.

We went on the cruise from St Petersberg to Moscow last Autumn and had a most wonderful time. We met a lot of lovely people among our fellow travellers who were from several parts of the World. As for the ships company every member was attentive to our every need. They were very smartly dressed and very cheerful. The Chef provided us with a good range of luscious meals which added to our enjoyment. We had a very comfortable state room with a balcony where we could sit and enjoy the scenery. St Petersberg and Moscow and the other towns and all had marvellous and historic buildings and other sites of interest. On two shore visits a member of the crew even pushed me round in a wheelchair as I had an injured leg, this was service indeed. To sum up, we found that right from the moment of booking to the end of our cruise, it was a most wonderful experience.

Waterways of the Tsars From start to finish we were looked after extremely well. The staff from the Captain to our cabin operative were all excellent. The food, the wine and the service could not be faulted. The information provided prior to each shore excursion was thorough and interesting. We would draw particular attention to Katherine, the Cruise Director, who excelled in both efficiency and attention to detail while offering the right degree of friendliness. One criticism would be the time taken to travel into Moscow for each of the shore excursions there and in St Petersburg. Whilst it was great being on the ship during each of our stays in Moscow and St Petersburg, it would be more beneficial, time wise, to stay in hotels in the city centres. It is not much fun sitting in traffic jams for hours on a coach. This was the least effective part of our cruise.

The cruise down the Rhine from Amsterdam to Basel was very well organised. The on-shore tours were led by knowledgeable guides, and we had plenty of time to wander off by ourselves if we wanted to before heading back to the buses. Our room attendant, Simona, was superb, providing us with a different 'towel creation' everyday on our beds. The food was excellent, and we appreciated having a light lunch if we wanted it. We joined in two of the evening events which we enjoyed, but were happy to rest in our cabins in the evening after a day of exploration. As soon as we got home we booked the Danube Waltz cruise for this coming summer.
