I use Volumio on a Raspberry Pi3B+ with a DAC on top of it. It provides very good sound quality and is very fast into scanning my files library (lots of gigabytes of FLAC files). I'm using my phone to control it and this works flawlessly. Sometimes, it loses the connection, but I suspect this is linked to the phone and its OS rather than to Volumio. Only thing that required some learning is the powering down, as for all Pi's it needs to be properly shutdown to prevent SD corruption. For me, no issue... The family had to be trained though :) If I may mention one area for improvement: the startup sound is very low (much lower than the music it plays when fully started), and there is no shutdown sound. As I use it without screen, it would be good to be able to tweak the startup settings and add a shutdown sound (use my own files by placing them in a special folder, with specified names and allow for a volume level). This way, I know when it started and when I can power it off. I've seen a script allowing for that, but this is not so user-friendly.

I started to use Volumio 3 not too long ago. I am very happy with the reliability, did had problem once with the WiFi connection. Just added a RPI DAC amp. The sound is much improved. However, do have a problem with not able to play low quality (32b /64b) web radio. May be a problem with the DAC and not Volumio.

I can't give volumio five stars. It is a great sounding music player but it can't play all music files as advertized. I have lots of sacd iso files but its so sad that volumio cant play them. And one more thing, it doesn't support replay gain, it does have volume normalization but its not effective. It affects the sound quality so please do include replay gain option. The subscription cost for me is a bit expensive so please do include these options in the following updates.

Volumio is a great music player compliant with many audio files formats. I use it with RPi combined with an external USB DAC which provides high quality sound for a very competitive price. I do not give 5 stars only because I sometimes experienced some reliability issues with WiFi network connections and more rarely forced to format and installing the firmware again. But how could we ask more from a free application that offers amazing features and a very user friendly interface which doesn’t have any competitor from my point of view. My suggestion would be to improve startup sequence and to propose natively a compliance with other TFT displays which is a nightmare to configure especially touch screen. Anyway many thanks to Volumio team for this achievement which offers an alternate solution to material music in a high fidelity approach!

I like the new version yet some features from previous version are missing thus I am staying with previous until they also get added. Buttons GPIO for example. These are free in previous version. Also, when you upgrade versions and then ask people to pay (which is respected) you must give them more than what they had for free.

The sound is fantastic and just for that and for what it does it deserves five stars. But to be honest - the code is buggy. It's best seen when the app is in the background on the smartphone, especially for a longer period of time. It needs to be closed and opened again in order to work properly.

Simple, Genius and with all features needed. Love it as the standard source of great sound every day.

I use the free version of Volumio 3 and am very happy about the easy connectivity of e.g. USB-HDD (with Moode I was not smart enough to run it), Plugins like Radio Paradise FLAC, ... . Sound quality is very good and installation quite easy.

Is ok, but sometimes there is no respons via my smartphone, sound is good, I think it could be better.

I used volumio as my usb turntable . The sound is very beautiful and everything was music lover friendly. I hate to pay monthly fee for upgrade premium membership. If you have another promotion about lifetime license. Let me know immediately pleased.

One time payment for each option will be appreciated and realistic… I’m sorry I can’t buy premium account.

The trouble with version 3 is that Volumio would like you to pay for features which are free in version 2. I think that's not a good approach. Therefore I stick with version 2.

I have issues running the last version on a Raspberry Pi 2 with a Wi-Fi dongle. The Wi-Fi dongle turns off after some time. I didn’t have any problems with the previous versions.

Hi, First I tried Volumio on two different laptops, and experienced horrible high frequency distortion on every kind of music files. This distortion did not appear on the same laptop using Windows and Foobar2000. Using Volumio on a Raspberry Pi 4 2GB the distortion did not appear and the sound quality was quite good. So I will use it on the RPi in the future. I like it because it can play every file formats like DSD and others. As I only want to listen only local files, no streaming, the free version is perfectly enough for me. Tamas, Hungary
