I had hoped for more detailed skills training about how to use studio lights for portrait photography to create different effects. I felt that this was rather glossed over. I feel that the course was directed towards young people who have almost no knowledge of how the camera works, or towards others who are hoping to go professional. And so I think it fell between two stools. As an older amateur photographer who has used film, DSLR and now mirrorless and phone cameras for over 40 years (including darkroom and modern digital editing skills) there was not a lot for me to learn on the technical side. However, for me, the crucial learning point was the importance of connecting with your subject/model, if you hope to achieve a meaningful image that means something to the model, yourself as the photographer, and potentially to a wider audience. I found the interviews with other professional photographers very interesting and I appreciate having gained an insight into Rankin's collaborative way of working. This was heart-warming, as there are rather too many photographers who are exploitative in how they achieve their images.

With an ever increasing number of in-depth courses from well-known experts, you can't really go wrong. The downlodable course notes are very handy to refer back to, as well.

"Despite being a designer with over 20 years of experience in the field of design and a university professor, I bought Paula Scher's course to regain my inspiration and the creative spirit of design, which tends to wear out over the years. Listening to Paula made me look back and regain the excitement of creating new things."

To have the opportunity to listen and watch an actor of Brian Cox's stature is FANTASTIC and through BBC Maestro - you can. This particular course is comprehensive, instructive, informative and above all VERY watchable. BBC Maestro courses cover a range of subject matters and is a truly wonderful way of getting expert guidance.

I've been really enjoying the course, but have got to lesson #9 and cannot access it. You seem to want me to purchase it again. Lesson 9 is where Tim Spector really starts to explain what to do, so I've only heard the background so far

The content quality is highly polished and very useful. Lessons are clear with a clear pensum. So far, the authors I've watched talked clearly and at a good pace.

My subscription to BBC Maestro is one I cherish and value. I do have several subscriptions that I occasionally watch/listen to, but BBC is the one I spend the most time with. This is my 3rd year learning from them. The instructors are knowledgeable, engaging, and leaders in their field. My latest favorite is Mark Ronson on music production, and I'm just starting graphic design by Paula Scher. Browse BBC's topics and instructors, and I know you'll find the exact class you need.

Not as informative as I had hoped and the annual membership doesn’t have that many courses to choose from - although the price wasn’t too bad with a discount applied. Had I paid full price I would have been disappointed

I was quite disappointed as I thought I would get more information on technique, the hows, and instruction rather than just a history of graphic design. While looking at the works and the process was interesting, I feel like I could have found some of this on YouTube for free.

I was excited to buy the Delicious Vegetarian Cooking with Marco Pierre White. I tried the mushroom risotto recipe. Unfortunately the cooking instructions on the PDF leave a lot to be desired. The ingredients ask for 3 knobs of butter, whereby only one knob of butter is asked for in the recipe. Perhaps it is expected to follow the PDF and video simultaneously, but as this was not possible I depended upon the PDF. The recipe also requires 50g of grated cheese, but we are not told at any stage where to use this cheese. Do we mix it in or sprinkle on the top at the end? I was also surprised that no seasoning is required. Mine definitely needed added salt and some black pepper.

I bought two courses: Mark Ronson's music production and more recently, Paula Scher's graphic design one Naturally, one can immediately tell that these two artists are true maestros of their respective crafts, because of the wealth of information they provide and how clearly they explain how to do what they do. This is also helped by the superb BBC's production and post-production, i.e. the way the videos are shot and edited, the super easy-to-navigate website itself, down to the interluding music/video clips. This is only the kind of quality and overall sheer class that the BBC can provide. And let us not forget the unbeatable value for money! Having access to all these great artists at THIS price is the kind of privilege nobody would have had, say 20 years ago. I am only thinking about which course to buy next!
