“The team at EML were just fantastic throughout the organisation of my virtual conference, the team elements of the event were great fun and just what we were looking for. All of our delegates thoroughly enjoyed the virtual experience.”

“I really enjoyed the puzzle and horse race activities. However, I could have done without the mind-reading session. I felt this session curtailed the time available for the other activities which were the ones that actually built on team working.”

“The team building we received was well intentioned and delivered by an approachable team in EML, but it was lacking a few key components: - It was not clearly instructed when we were required to go into breakout rooms what the set up would be - Teambuilding exercises were not made clear by staff live at the session - Links to games weren't well posted - Feedback system - emailing the team - cost time together as a group - The instruction videos cost valuable time in breakout rooms - it is much more personable to deliver a "how to" presentation live to the whole client group and then split people into breakout rooms, leaving people time to ask questions - The games could be better as instructions were not clear and it felt very self-led - The software used for games seemed old fashioned - The horse racing game wasn't really interactive at all and the jokes were quite old fashioned - The treasure hunt was fun More interaction from live staff, less reliance on email, better signposted links and an improvement on the team games would make a huge difference to the wider event. I would in all honesty lose the horse racing since it's quite clunky and doesn't feel interactive.”

“EML were wonderful in helping us to arrange a large online event for our staff. They were extremely professional, patient and creative in our interactions when planning our event. On the day, they were very organised and had several staff on hand to help out. They managed our Zoom links, breakout rooms, videos, etc. which took pressure off us so we could enjoy the day and focus on the content of the conversations with staff. We did have a wee hiccup with Zoom but that was a technical issue not of their doing. They have a wide range of teambuilding activities which made our day fun and interactive. We would like to work with EML again in the future if we can.”

“Found the challenge difficult in the afternoon. Only person that was engaged was the person who is an accountant. Maybe before we start a short intro on the tasks as we would have gone straight to the treasure hunt had we known what the challenge involved.”

“The day ran smoothly, unfortunately there were a few time issues but that was not on your part. Any issues that people were having technically were fixed very quickly to keep the events running. Particularly enjoyed the magician/mind reader, as did most people I have spoken to afterwards. Thank you”

“I found the first round of VTA's to be fun and that they worked well over the zoom format. The reason I am giving this a 1 star review is because of the horseracing activity. Beside's the obvious that horseracing is an abhorrent 'sport', I found the curry themed horse names element of the second round to be utterly distasteful and verging on casual racism. We have South Asian members of staff and I cannot even begin to think how uncomfortable that may have been for them. I don't believe that taking an already bastardised version of South Asian culture and bastardising it even more to make it a party theme was appropriate. Student Services and The Student Experience Directorate as a whole stand for diversity, equality and inclusion and I believe that this game, no matter how ephemeral, was not the correct message to broadcasting to 64 members of staff at the end of a conference looking at the future of student services. I would encourage your team to think more carefully about the content you choose to present to a wide audience and I hope that this error in judgment can be learned from. I understand that you are not all to blame and that this also falls onto the staff who vetted and authorised this material who will also be hearing from me.”

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for your feedback. Glad to read that you found the day long virtual conference to be fun and that you felt it worked well. Sorry to read that the short, 5 minute section of video horse racing wasn’t to your personal taste and has subsequently triggered your poor review. Rest assured virtual video horse racing has proven to be an incredibly popular entertainment for 100’s of global teams over the last 12 months of lockdown and this is the first complaint of this nature we have ever received. We must say that our multi cultural team find your inference that a British / South Asian fusion cuisine inspired spoof video horse race with horses including the ‘Balti Flyer’ and ‘Bhaji’ amounts to casual racism to be both misguided and offensive. We will however take your advice and endeavour to review all of the existing 20 video races as a matter of urgency. “Thank you EML for a great virtual teambuilding Christmas party. Everyone had a great time and this virtual option created a great opportunity to stay in touch with our colleagues and have some Christmas fun. “It was a fun organised event, my links were not always good and emails were not received to take part and caused a few hiccups, but overall it was a good break to mix with team members in a joyous way so the desired effect was achieved.”
