“I found the study material relevant and well set out
I however often had to wait for assistance when I needed it. Although I completed my studies, including work placement I still don’t feel well prepared for going into a counselling role.”
Hello Julie,
Thank you for providing us with your feedback. Our goal is to continuously improve the student experience, which is why feedback like yours is so important to us.
We are sorry to hear about your experience with receiving assistance. It’s not our wish for any of our students to feel alone during their studies.
We want you to know that we will address this internally to ensure that this process runs smoother for our current and future students.
We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the learning content. Thanks for letting us know!
Lastly, we do wish to congratulate you on your graduation. What an achievement! You have pushed through to the very end and showed dedication, hard work, and commitment. Well done, Julie!
All the very best from Open Colleges.
“The course was very repetitive, I had one assessor that knit picked everything I had done on the couple of modules she corrected this was extremely frustrating when your busy trying to move forward having to always go back for very minor mistakes her ego was at play here. Other than that Cas was a great help and another young man from student support. Thank you I'm extremely happy it's completed. Kind regards Jenny Cockerill .”
Hello Jenny,
Thank you for bringing these issues to light. We value feedback, whether it is negative or positive, as it helps us implement new processes to better improve the student experience.
In regard to the feedback on your first assessor, we are sorry to hear about that negative experience and we want you to know that we have passed this onto our education team.
We are so pleased to hear of your positive experiences with our student support. That’s great to know, and I’m sure they will be happy to hear it!
While we continue to improve, we do want to congratulate you on your graduation. You have managed to overcome and remained dedicated and committed to your studies, and we know you have a very bright future ahead of you. Well done, Jenny!

“Was great at the start but towards the end a lot of miss communication. I thought I had 6 assessments left so I spent months doing them and paying extra money to only find out that I have two assignments left. After finishing them I told told that I didn’t finish and it was a whole process until they said I actually finished.”
“This course was okay, it became difficult at times of course and easier at others although some trainers were helpful and wanted to help you succeed others were not. Personally my experience with this course was a bit wish washy and more difficult than needed to be but its over now and i’m grateful i got there in the end. Hopefully other peoples experience will be better than mine.”
“I think the education is solid. Lots of ambition to help grow a student's knowledge.
I don't like the reliance on other people to help compose projects. You need to find participants to assist in assignments and that deters me from doing more courses.
I would like to do more online courses, a wider variety.”
“While my Work Placement was an invaluable learning component, I was disappointed in having to complete so much written content during that time, which undeniably took away from the rich experience of being immersed in the speech pathology field.”
“Did your trainer have a positive effect on your studies?
The trainer Nicola Robey made a very negative and difficult effect on my studies.
She gives assessments with little feedback which takes a lot of back-and-forth communication to understand what she wants.
It took me 2 months to complete one small assessment because she wouldn't explain what she wants for it.
During placement, I received no support and the way she explained the process of completing the required assessments was extremely confusing for both myself and my placement supervisor.
How did studying with OC have a meaningful impact on your life?
i am very glad to have completed my certificate.
What did you like about the online learning platform?
it was flexible.
Was it easy to fit study around other commitments?
yes.”
“The course was pretty good in general, until it was time to do work placement and the final portfolio. There was way too much work piled into a 3 week period (doing work placement hours plus the 60 page portfolio plus phonce checkpoints). I completed the checkpoint phone calls with my assesor that went well, until they ceased work with Open Colleges so all that was lost even though I had completed the calls and had been checked off. Still trying to organise all this months after I had completed placement with little to no support from Open Colleges. Finally finished the course and I never received a hard copy of my certificate just an email.
Way too much pressure is put on the student during placement and the portfolio and it is like Open Colleges wants the person to fail and keep having to extend the course.
Still waiting on the hard copy of my certificate a year later.”
