“Very practical”

“I did soooo much research but I was still hesitant about Pinwheel. It's a lot of money and you never really know what it's like until you get your hands on the phone and deal with customer service. Well, after 6 months, this is the best thing I ever did for my kiddo! He had a Gabb watch before Pinwheel and it was pretty limited (which I liked when he was 10 but now he was 14). I like that I can add apps and they are always adding new apps. I like the "request an app" too! I thought my son would hate the limitations but he's so excited to finally have his own phone that he can talk/text his friends with. The caregiver portal/app is amazingly easy to use too. 10 out of 10.”

“I purchased a pinwheel phone for my disabled niece as she needs to be monitored to keep her safe. It has been the best purchase ever. She loves having a smartphone like all the other "kids", yet it offers us the protection we need to ensure that she stays out of trouble and safe. Customer service is fantastic!!!”

“I understand that they have my kid's safety in mind, which I appreciate. But, nothing about using this phone or the caregiver app is easy. I approve an app and two-three days later it finally appears on my kid's phone. That might be good publicity for Pinwheel, they are protecting my kid, but they don't have to deal with a frustrated kid for two days because the app that I approved is not on their phone. And this was a PInwheel approved app. Calling the helpline is little help either because you can never get anyone. I should have gotten my kids an Apple watch and then limited their access like a lot of parents I know have done.”

“I think this is a good option for new phone users. I think it is a little too much for older teens because the apps are so limited. It would be nice to have a phone with the same type of parental controls as an iphone has, but that are able to be controlled from the parents phone.”

“It’s a little cumbersome trying to navigate the OS if not very familiar with what I think android platform is. Make me appreciate my iPhone much more. When the kids grow out of the pinwheel we will definitely be buying iPhones for them.”

“I am having a hard time signing up with mint mobile because they only activate the phone and account with text messages. Because of the pinwheel software we cannot get unauthorized text messages. I’m surprised you recommend them as a mobile carrier. The location tracking has been slow and not always accurate. We would like more wallpaper options.”

“Love the parental monitoring, but really wish you offered a smaller phone that isn't crazy expensive. We ordered the slim and the phone is huge for a 13 year olds hand. It doesn't fit into his pocket, so it's hard for him to take it places. Would love a smaller phone so it's easier for a kid to hold and carry.”

“I don't like how all contacts are shut down when "all-mode" is disabled except for emergency contacts. I find I cannot allow my child to be in All-Mode most of the time because he games. I've also had a difficult time adding contacts. He should be able to add his own contacts, as that's the permission I've given him, but he cannot seem to do this. I wish there was a way to allow contacts and phone calls, but to shut down the apps and gaming. I would also like to give him permission to game during his lunch period, but there are not enough scheduling options to curate the timing. Additionally the GPS at times works and then at other times seems to get stuck.”

“I am frustrated that as the parent, i cannot send contacts from my phone to hers, or videos by text. I wish I could receive notifications when I need to go into the parent portal. Also, getting into the parent portal via cell phone is not the most convenient. While I am happy that my child has a safe phone, it does not meet our needs as a family.”
