About The Thompson Method:

The Thompson Method is a gentle, evidence based method towards a gentle birth and pain-free breastfeeding experience. It was created by Dr Robyn Thompson, a midwife with over 45 years experience who was awarded a PhD for her research into why so many women were being discharged from hospital with painful nipple trauma and other breastfeeding complications such as engorgement & mastitis.

The Thompson Method challenges the forceful breastfeeding techniques, linked with painful nipple trauma, that are commonly taught in most hospitals. It’s for ALL women who want to breastfeed, but particularly those giving birth in the hospital system because it offers a gentle alternative to help women AVOID the most common and painful breastfeeding complications.

But it’s more than just the technique on how to get a good latch. It is that, but it’s so much more...

I am so incredibly thankful that I found the Thompson Breast Feeding method- without doubt one of the best investments I made leading up to the birth of my first child, Maggie. She was born after a stressful 37+ active labour and an emergency c-section. I have never felt exhaustion quite like it. Maggie was also born with a tongue tie- her tongue forms a little heart. Thanks to the amazing videos, I had the confidence to say NO I don't want her tie cut and NO I don't want you to show me how to feed. Maggie has been amazing, she dropped just 40g at her day 5 weigh in & I have not had to use nipple cream at all. This is all, without doubt, down to this amazing program. Thank you!!

It took me several weeks to pluck up the courage to purchase the Thompson Method. After searching for breastfeeding help I had come across many that lacked substance and cost the earth. I almost didnt bother looking into the Thompson Method as it seemed too cheap. But I'm so glad I did. The breastfeeding support is so personal and effective, but before I even got to that stage, the in depth labour and birthing information and extensive birth plan provided, made me realise I had made the best decision I could have. From having two previous children, both with quite awful deliveries and who I was unable breastfeed for more than a few weeks each, to having my little boy on my terms, the way I wanted too, and currently at 3 months of exclusive breastfeeding. The guidance and encouragement of the team has been my support system that has seen me keep going when hurdles popped up, no matter the time of day, a quick post on the Club page and I had personalised help to get us back on track. If I could, I would do whatever I could to assure every mumma that they would get amazing benefit from the Thompson Method and they should jump in with both feet. Its the best thing I did. X

One year of breastfeeding I did it! I breastfed my 3rd baby for a whole year! I feel so proud to be able to make this post. But to be honest, I’m not like the majority of mom’s when it comes to breastfeeding. I feel embarrassed to share this, but I didn’t love it. I am so glad to be at 1 year and looking forward to weaning. I see a lot of mamas sharing how much they love and enjoy breastfeeding, but for me, I did it for the sake of my baby because I truly believe that human milk is for human babies - and that’s what motivated me to continue on through this journey. If you can relate to me, I just want to cheer you on. You can do this! It didn’t help that I didn’t have a ton of support. Everyone around me would drop comments like, “too bad you’re breastfeeding, I can’t help you with the baby so you can get a break.” When my son was about 6 months old, people would say, “isn’t he too big to still be breastfeeding?” Or things like, “you should just give him a bottle and formula. It would be so much easier for you.” But two quotes that kept me going through all these negativity were: “Breastmilk. Never been recalled.” And “Breastfeeding is 90% determination and 10% milk.” Of course, I couldn’t have done it without The Thompson Method! The biggest support for me was the Facebook group. The admins were always so quick to respond and share resources to my questions and give peace to my doubts. Before my first baby was born, I did so much research on breastfeeding. I watched so many YouTube videos and even listened to all the ways the lactation consultants taught me. Nonetheless, I couldn’t latch my first baby and was pressured by my mom to give him formula in the hospital. He preferred bottles, so I pumped for 3 months before quitting. With my second baby, I thought I learned so much from my first. I did more research and watched even more videos. My second baby latched, but using all the wrong techniques (like nipple to nose), I quit due to nipple pain. I was so sore, tore up, bleeding, and in pain that I was literally in tears every time he latched. I cried the whole feed and said, “ow, ow, ow!” That I had to quit. My mental and physical health was going down the drain and fast! So finally, for my third baby, I decided to purchase The Thompson Method as a last ditch effort. I told myself that if I paid for a program and still couldn’t breastfeed, I would come to peace with it. Well let me tell you, it was worth every penny!!! I want to shout to the world and to every mama planning to breastfeed, do it The Thompson Method way! The education that I was provided was beyond anything I could have googled on the web or watched on YouTube. I justified it like this, “if my husband can slip $100 into a slot machine and risk losing it all, I can spend $100 on this breastfeeding program.” And also, “If I am willing to buy a $150 bassinet that my baby will only use for less than 6 months, I can spend $100 on this breastfeeding program that can help me feed naturally for a whole year.” And guess what? I have spent exactly $0 on formula because I was able to feed my baby my breastmilk, pain free and successfully! Like I said, truth be told, I didn’t love breastfeeding, but I definitely didn’t hate it. And I am so proud of us! We made it to one year! So for any mamas who can relate to me, it’s worth it! Keep going and one year will come before you know it. Thank you, Dr. Robyn and your team!

I sit here looking down at my 14 month old daughter and hold back tears as this may just be our last feed together. I am so grateful I have been able to breastfeed for this long. I am returning to work after having 15 months off and we are putting her on a bottle full time. I am grateful to The Thompson Method Breastfeeding Club for the knowledge, support and sharing stories with all the mums and midwives. 💖🙏🏻

As a first time mum, I am so glad that I came across The Thompson Method of breastfeeding. What a gift it has been to be able to nurture and nourish my baby through the unique and intimate bonding experience of breastfeeding. Dr Robyn Thompson's gentle way is a true inspiration. The knowledge I gained through the modules on the Kajabi app and through the Facebook group has been so useful and given me so much confidence from the beginning. It's amazing how much feeding has such a wide-reaching effect on every other facet of helping and allowing our babies to grow, develop and flourish. My baby has been exclusively breastfed for 7 months today and I owe this success to The Thompson Method. As a mother, I am so empowered by everything that I have learned from Dr Robyn Thompson. I don't think I would be the calm, patient (mostly!) and nurturing mother that I am today without the knowledge and approach I have learned from The Thompson Method. I am truly grateful to Dr Robyn and her wonderful team.

I cannot quite believe I have so far been EBF for 6 months and it’s been a pleasure (mainly 🤣). It’s something I really wanted to achieve and I am so so grateful to Dr Robyn and her team. It was a totally different and emotionally and physically painful with my first son and I was totally dreading breastfeeding again. The Thompson method changed my whole feeding experience and makes so much sense.I cannot believe society focuses so much on labouring a child but not the feeding. Thank you for everything. The best thing by far I’ve purchased for my baby and me.

Signing up to the was a complete whim. It popped up in my Facebook feed that the course was having a sale and I thought, “we’ll why the heck not” Honestly this was the best money I spent getting ready for birth and breastfeeding. To the entire Thompson team… Thank You! I’ve learned so much through my interactions with Dr Robyn’s videos and the course. Made me feel like I could make more informed decisions throughout birthing and the beginning of breastfeeding. Introducing Reuben Born 36weeks after ruptured membranes (which happened while I was in teaching Year 4 writing! Such fun!) My waters were open for a good 37 hours. I was supposed to be induced, but the hospital was too busy. So he decided to come all on his own and I’m so glad he did as I was quite anxious about having to be induced. We’re currently in the special care nursery establishing feeds and being monitored. Thanks team!

Without the Thompson method, I had no idea what I was doing!! They have not only provided me with the foundations I needed to guide me through birthing and breastfeeding, but they have supported me ever since. Any questions or issues I had, they answered and assisted quickly.

Thanks to the Thompson method we have a smooth ride breastfeeding. The team is amazing and has been quick with answering my questions and so far we have been able to overcome our challenges. Because of the content of this program I had the confidence to advocate for myself despite the OB being of a very different philosophy. The knowledge of this program gave me the empowerment I needed when I was most vulnerable to options of others. It has set us up on a successful breastfeeding journey, without pain or nipple trauma, it gave me quick and easy solutions to deal with engorgement and milk plebs, fast let downs and high milk volume. My baby was a natural and latched perfectly in the first feed and has continued to do so ever since. I even had the confidence to publicly breast feed 2 weeks post-partum at Christmas Day at a local beach. Thank you 🙏🏽 Gabriel and Kiara Vianne

I just want to say a huge thank you to the Thompson Method Group. My sweet sunshine is now 3 months old and has been nursing like a champ. I had so many problems with my first daughter that I stated having issues at 3 months and my milk completely dried up by 5 months. I can already tell there is a major difference with not only my milk but with the satisfaction of my sweet girl after she eats. My first daughter was always fussy and gassy and never seemed satisfied. This little one’s digestive tract is in a much better place, and she sleeps so peacefully most of the time. So thank you so much Dr. Robin and group! You’ve given me something so special in teaching this method.

I want to express gratitude and appreciation for Dr. Robyn and her team. The Thompson Method helped me establish a breastfeeding relationship with my son after several days in the NICU and a history of not being able to breastfeed my first born. I am so deeply grateful for the education provided and the ongoing support (shout out to Rachael Austin for my recue session!). Here we are, at two weeks post partum and six months today. Still going strong! I am so grateful. 💕💕💕

Thank you Dr Robyn, the team and the breastfeeding program. Although I am a third time mom, I was unable to breastfeed my first two babies due to terrible pain and not being prepared. My third and final baby is now 8 weeks old. She is nursing so well, gaining weight and I am enjoying breastfeeding without pain! Dr Robyn thank you for making my 3rd and final breastfeeding experience an enjoyable one ❤️

I was able to meet my goal of breastfeeding my second son exclusively until he was 6 months old. Now I'm working on 1 year! Breastfeeding my first son was short lived, heart breaking, and not at all what I wanted. This program has given me a second chance at achieving a lifelong dream of mine, I can't thank Dr Robyn and the team enough!

Just wanted to express how thankful I am for this program. I fed my first with a shield. I tried to feed my second without a shield but at nine weeks his weight dropped off the chart. After a frenotomy, thrush, four lots of mastitis, torn milk ducts, lots of nipple trauma, stress and pain I stopped breastfeeding. I was determined to make it work this time and started searching for help. I came across the program and did the entire course while pregnant with number three. While doing the course I was able to pinpoint what had likely gone wrong in the past. Baby arrived early, came fast and was tiny. Being a third time mum I was pretty much left alone during my stay in the hospital which gave me the time and space to implement what I had learnt. I met a lovely midwife during my stay who had worked with The Thompson Method at the Mater in Brisbane. I asked her to observe a feed and she was very encouraging and assured me we were doing well. Feeding is going amazingly. Bub is content, relaxed and putting on weight beautifully. After my traumatic experiences in the past I never could have dreamed that I would be where I am today, enjoying feeding with such ease. Thank you so much for this program and the confidence it gives.

We made it! The most beautiful 6 months of my life, and planning to keep going to our next milestone, hopefully one year and more. I feel very blessed for having found this course while pregnant, with all the wisdom from Dr. Robyn and her amazing team. I don't think we would have reached this far otherwise. The first few weeks were rough but with patience and help from this group we overcame the difficulties. Thank you so much to all the amazing ladies and to Dr. Robyn for sharing, for being so thoughtful and a beautiful human being. I'm your fan :D

So incredibly grateful to have found The Thompson Method program. My husband and I sit and watch a couple of videos together and talk over the different points each evening. I've just turned 37 weeks. This is my first baby and we are both feeling more prepared by the day. I've been telling all of my pregnant friends about your program. I love it. It's so much more than just breastfeeding. I can't wait for my little one to arrive so I can put everything I've learned into practice. I also feel completely reassured knowing that when bubs arrives I have the support of the Thompson Method community. Thank you for creating such a wonderful resource for women.

I came across The Thompson Method when I was around 25 weeks pregnant and I am so glad I did. My first pregnancy was 11 years ago and I had an awful birth experience. This time due to the knowledge I gained through the course, I got to have the home birth I wanted with no pain relief and I knew I could say no to the things I didnt want. Our breastfeeding journey started of rocking due to poor latch, a few days stay in hospital due to jaundice and a tongue tie (which he still has) but we got through it all and reached our goal of 6 months yesterday 😀. I honestly didn't think we would have gotten this far without the help from Robyn and TTM team. I will continue to breastfeed until my little boy self weans.

100% credit to this course for my successful breastfeeding journey - 8 months and counting! I started the course when I was 30 weeks pregnant and I was surprised by how much info was relevant to learn at that time - especially explaining how labour and birth processes and drugs can impact the breastfeeding journey. This course was worth every cent!! In the early days and weeks, I would watch the 2-5 minute videos on the oh-so relevant topics in the middle of the night. I felt comforted and supported during those challenging and isolating times, overcoming difficulty with attachment due to 'flat' nipples, oversupply, and 3 bouts of mastitis .. Around 8 weeks things improved and at 5 months my supply settled. The team are efficient at addressing specific questions and genuinely care about more than just your breastfeeding journey. Thanks again Robyn & TTM team xx

6 months breastfeeding my little boy Maxwell!!! So pleased that our breastfeeding journey has been quite a dream. Although we did not get the birth that we wanted, (pesky Covid restrictions meant I didn't have my doula to advocate for me and being on a phone call was frustrating because reception was terrible!😞), we've definitely been blessed with a great breastfeeding journey from the start. In fact, the week before he was born, he could be seen already drinking so vigorously on the ultrasound!😂 He came out ready to feed, and latched well the first time. We got not 3, but 4 golden hours, and the midwives caring for us in the postnatal ward soon knew him as the 'great feeder'. 😂 They called him ‘lucky’ because he had an abundance of milk which started coming in on Day 2! All of this is thanks to Dr Robyn Thompson’s method. As a first time mother, this program has been my best purchase so far. Dr Robyn’s approach is so open, gentle, flexible, and non-judgmental. It’s helped me to be the same towards myself, which has helped me to be a calm and peaceful mother (most of the time – we all have our moments!). Dr Robyn has such a beautiful way about her, where every situation is viewed from a point of interested curiosity, which has taught me also to be the same towards new challenges on this path of motherhood. The modules on the app are so comprehensive – I am always able to find guidance if ever I stumble upon a challenge. I’m continuing to be baby-led on this breastfeeding journey. Although Maxwell has been on foods more regularly, he is still interested in breastfeeding (dropped from 7 feeds down to 6 and has longer periods between feeds). Dr Robyn Thompson’s approach has inspired what have become my main mantras on motherhood: ‘Just go with it’ and ‘This too shall pass’. So grateful to Dr Robyn and the team that breastfeeding has been such a success and a real pleasure to bond with my baby.
