About The Thompson Method:

The Thompson Method is a gentle, evidence based method towards a gentle birth and pain-free breastfeeding experience. It was created by Dr Robyn Thompson, a midwife with over 45 years experience who was awarded a PhD for her research into why so many women were being discharged from hospital with painful nipple trauma and other breastfeeding complications such as engorgement & mastitis.

The Thompson Method challenges the forceful breastfeeding techniques, linked with painful nipple trauma, that are commonly taught in most hospitals. It’s for ALL women who want to breastfeed, but particularly those giving birth in the hospital system because it offers a gentle alternative to help women AVOID the most common and painful breastfeeding complications.

But it’s more than just the technique on how to get a good latch. It is that, but it’s so much more...

Milkstache! Miss Nell is 4 days old today and breast feeding like a champ. Your courses helped me prepare for an induced labor, an unexpected c section and immediate breast feeding. Knowledge is power and comfort 💜

I always knew I wanted to breastfeed my child(ren) and I just thought it ‘happened’ naturally…how wrong I was! It is so difficult but also so rewarding and satisfying knowing you are giving your child the best start in life – something I could not have done without the Thompson method, Beautiful Breastfeeding programme and Dr Robyn and Susanna’s help, encouragement and support. I deliberated about buying into the Thompson method resources for a while – surely I didn’t need a course to know how to feed my baby?! I was desperate to get it right and once I had joined and asked a few questions on the page, Susanna asked if I want to join her Beautiful Breastfeeding programme. I said yes, and, if I hadn’t, I know I wouldn’t have looked through all the resources which were so vital in helping me to breastfeed successfully as I tried to get everything ready for my first child. It was the perfect way to go through the most important things like how to hold and position your baby and be able to ask questions. My eyes began to open to all that was involved. The education I received from the course was invaluable as I learnt about my body, how milk production works (wow – your body is amazing!), how to achieve a good latch and so much more! I was able to choose to incorporate important things into my birth plan I would never have known about, like the 3 Golden Hours, insist on no interventions and start that first important feed, understanding how to work with my sleepy baby following a c-section because he was breach and feeling reassured that I knew what to do. Following the birth of my baby, it was all going so well as he latched and started his first feed. Then, about an hour after my baby was born, I had a major haemorrhage, lost consciousness and everything started to go wrong! Baby ended up skin-to-skin with Dad and when I woke 3 hours later, he was starving. Thankfully my birth plan had stated no formula, so there had been no intervention, but I struggled to get colostrum (I hadn’t managed to express any before his birth), managing only a couple of drops a feed. And so it began… He lost 15% of his birth weight and had urate crystals in his urine, so the pressure was on, having been told I was “starving” my baby, “making him ill”, was going to “put him in intensive care” because he wasn’t getting enough food and I “needed” to give him formula. Thankfully, I had the angel that was Susanna on Whatsapp messenger. She called on the advice of a midwife and they reassured me that I could do it without the help of formula, they advised me to express and supplement with syringe feeding. They gave me to the courage and confidence to resist the ‘quick fix’ and pressure from the hospital, and keep trying. For a week I barely slept, persevered trying to latch my baby for a feed, then expressing and topping him up – determined not to give him formula! We did it! On day 4 my milk came in and, on day 6, he had gained some of his birth weight so we were allowed to go home with a feeding plan. Then the nipple trauma started! Again, Susanna supported me with video calls and Dr Robyn was able to observe a feed too and helped me with fine-tuning. Following Susanna’s suggestion, I took my baby to a chiropractor (I wish I had done this sooner!) and after 14 long weeks, we finally had some comfortable feeds having navigated fast flow, ignored people saying that my milk wasn’t enough when he kept crying for more, and avoided mastitis following multiple milk blebs and blocked ducts (again, the advice was invaluable – I wouldn’t have had a clue!) When our journey began, I wanted to get to 6 weeks. Then I wanted to get to 6 months, then until he got teeth(!), and 10 months on, we are still going strong. I cannot thank Susanna and her Beautiful Breastfeeding course enough, Dr Robyn for her time and the Thompson Method. It makes me sad when I hear so many people say they have not ‘been able to’ breastfeed, and have given up because they haven’t ‘got enough milk’. I know I would’ve done the same if I hadn’t have had access to the resources, seen the questions and responses on the Facebook page and been able to ask Susanna for advice and resources every time I was unsure (which has been a lot – she has had the patience of a saint!) So with the most sincere, heartfelt thanks to everyone involved– thank you for helping me to give my baby the best gift ever – our beautiful breastfeeding journey!

I came across the Thompson method during my pregnancy, I thought ide give breastfeeding a go however was nervous due to everything I heard about it being painful and issues with clogged ducts and mastitis. Following this model not only helped me in labour with regards to my choices but it’s given me the most amazing breastfeeding experience with my son. Not a single issue with his latch or pain ect. Still going exclusively breastfeeding at 21 months now. I highly recommend this model. Honestly it’s shaped my whole motherhood journey

Breastfeeding journey has it's ups and downs but thankful for this program/group. Remember the night I found it, felt like a miracle. Premie boy couldn't open his mouth wide for a wide latch. He'd scream coming to breast because of the forceful technique shown in hospital. Would take sometimes half hour to latch. First try with this program he latched in minutes! Minutes! Couldn't believe it. We still have changes and hard feeds. But he's doing good. He used to refuse left. Through program found out I had partially inverted/flat nipple. With nipple former you can now see he latches with no problem. Thank you all! He's 17 weeks and hopefully as time goes, we'll be able to stick through all the changes. Thank you again!

This method was EVERYTHING for our journey to just shy of 3 years! I would never have made it past three weeks had I not invested the time to learn what The Thompson Method had to offer. I 100% recommend this community, it is worth every penny and more. They even helped the weaning process with their tips and tricks!

I was unable to breastfeed with my first two but this method gave me the tools I needed to feel confident and succeed with my third! March 28 I made it to our 1 year of breastfeeding! All of the videos and information broken out really helped to focus on what you needed to know but being able to ask questions about your unique circumstance is invaluable.

Thanks to the clear information taught in the course and the amazing support and guidance I received in my rescue session, I have been exclusively breastfeeding my 5.5 month old twins so far and going strong! The Thompson Method helped me figure out how to tandem nurse my twins with less pain and more confidence. I had so many questions, doubts, and concerns about my ability to nurse but the practitioner, Rachael, was extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, and empowering. Thank you!!!

I just wanted to share that we’ve successfully made it 10 months of exclusively breastfeeding!!! ♥️🥰♥️🥰 I kept telling myself if I could at least make it to 6 months then I would be happy….but here we are still going strong at 10 months! I’m so incredibly grateful to the Thompson method. I definitely don’t think I would have made it this far without all the videos and encouragement and advice I received!

Just wanted to shout a big thank you to this method and Dr. Thompson showed me that I was right in thinking there was a better way to breast-feed babies! All my Mother friends that breast-feed told me it hurts like crazy for the first two weeks, but you just have to push through and then after that it’s not so painful. I could barely make it because the pain was so excruciating. But this method saved my breast-feeding journey with my first sonat eight weeks. I breast fed him until just shy of 22 months. I reached out to this group again when my second son was born and we were struggling after four days. Jill Duke was wonderful and so patient in helping me. We are now 13 weeks into our breast-feeding journey, and doing so well! So thank you Thompson method, breast-feeding, group, and all those amazing women who are helping to try and educate the world. That breast-feeding is not supposed to be painful! pic of my chunky monkey and his older brother!

This method and program were so incredible and instrumental in our breastfeeding success. I’ve had next to no issues and thanks to Dr. Thompson’s research and comprehensive Q&A library, every time I did have a small blip I knew what to do. It is absolutely in large part due to this method, Dr. Thompson, and everyone in her community that my little sweetpea and I have come to her 6 month mark today and have had such a smooth, successful time exclusively nursing (which I know isn’t desirable, practical, or possible for many mamas). These moments are invaluable and so blissful and magical for me—most of the time 😆—and I often hope and pray I won’t forget how it feels when her little hand is clutching my finger while she suckles to sleep. To all the mamas out there going through a struggle (as we have at times!!) or expecting your little ones and fretting about all the things that seem to possibly go wrong (as I did!!), many of us are silently learning and having so much success, and we don’t always post about it. No matter how your journey goes YOU CAN DO IT and this community is here for you!!!! So much love from Marelina Luna Maurine and I. Thank you Dr. Thompson and team! 💖💖💖

Celebrating one month of breastfeeding after being so nervous I wouldn’t be capable or have it figured out before delivering. The information from TTM is so detailed and unlike any other training program. I did the beautiful breastfeeding program with a Thompson method rep. I loved having the ongoing support anytime I had a question or concern throughout the last month 💙

This has been an excellent programme for me. As a first time mum I was very anxious about breastfeeding & birth in general. The Thompson method programme made me feel knowledgeable during the later stages of pregnancy, it also gave me the confidence to make my own decisions throughout my journey. After birth in the first few months the support that the programme & private Facebook group gave was invaluable. I now have a happy & healthy 1 year old that I’m so proud to have fed for so long & will continue to feed until she no longer needs it. I will always recommend the Thompson method to every expectant mother.

I’m grateful for this community and so glad I purchased the programme during pregnancy. After a slow start to our breastfeeding journey I’m now confident enough to feed my 12 week old in public (something I never thought I could do) I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get a head start on their breastfeeding journey or those who have already started and need some extra support.

We did it!!! My little man was born early Saturday morning at 2:26am. We had two golden hours and completed our first breastfeed. He latched so well!!! Other than sleepy baby from epidural we have had a successful and pain free experience. It’s Thursday and I’m completely confident in the start of our journey. NO NIPPLE TRAUMA! Something to be said about following instincts and trusting your baby’s innate ability to nurse. Thank you for your research and empowering moms to succeed in breastfeeding. I will recommend this program to anyone and everyone I know!

18 months and going strong! 🥹 We're down to 2 feeds a day but my little one won't be giving up either feed for a while. Tonight she decided to share her milk with her baby and unlatched a couple of times so she could let her baby have some. I'm so so grateful for this method and group. I don't think I would have made it this far if it weren't for the information I've learned here. I've fought of mastitis at least four times, dealt with a cracked nipple, weaned off a nipple shield and nursed a young baby through a couple of illnesses. I've made it through with the help of my husband and all the skills I've learned with this program. Thank-you to everyone who has made it possible!

Can’t say enough good things about this class. I wish I bought it before I had my first baby. But I didn’t know breastfeeding could be so complicated if you aren’t taught correctly. If you have your heart set on breastfeeding, I 100% recommend this class. It’ll pay for itself with the savings on formula. It was too painful to breastfeed my first baby, and I had to quit. But I’m exclusively breastfeeding my second, and I owe it to this class and group. This class needs to be taught to all nurses!

We’ve officially made it 6 months of exclusively breastfeeding. 🎉 No pumping, no bottles. Our birth wasn’t what I planned. Homebirth turned emergency c section for him being transverse. I didn’t get to hold him / nurse him for close to 3 hours after…despite that, he latched right away and my milk came in and he gained weight great. Very thankful for this. During pregnancy I took a local lactation class and in the hospital a lactation consultant gave some advice. I was taught the cross cradle method like most women are. That’s pretty much the only information they shared. Things were fine for awhile but he started having terrible gas pains around 6 weeks and I wanted to help him so badly. Thinking it had to do with feeding, I had another lactation consultant come to my house and she too taught the cross cradle, shove the breast in mouth method. She said he had a severe tongue tie that was affecting his latch and feeding. I was told he’d need a tongue tie revision to get a good latch. I stumbled upon The Thompson Method (thank the Lord!!! 🙌🏻) and gobbled up the information. Once we started practicing face symmetry and doing the rest and digest, his gastro issues resolved! I had been over feeding him from full breasts. No tongue tie revision and his latch is great! I had never once been told the importance of the rest and digest period, the importance of L R, R L feeding, or the importance of face symmetry. Had I not found The Thompson Method, we probably wouldn’t have the joy filled breastfeeding relationship that we have now. 🥺 I’m so thankful I get to nourish my baby the way I desire and I pray we can go another 1.5+ years. Thank you to all the moderators that answer questions. May you all be abundantly blessed. And thank you Dr. Robyn, to your dedication to helping breastfeeding moms. 🫶🏻 Pay it forward ladies! Tell everyone you know about The Thompson Method so they can have a successful journey. 🤍 I’ve shared with so many mamas and will continue to! (Photo from when he was a 4 week old peanut before I knew about The Thompson Method. He’s now a 6 month old 20+ pound healthy boy.)

A milestone reached - baby Greta is now 1 month old and our shared breastfeeding journey is getting better and smoother day by day. We had a rough start - the birth itself (induced, vaginal birth at 40 weeks 2 days with no epidural or any painkillers) was amazing but I got traumatised by the feeding method I was forced to do by the hospital crew. 'Imagine your breast is a hamburger your baby wants to bite into' they said, and my baby's head was pushed onto my firmly gripped breasts again and again. My nipples were bleeding and bruised after only a day or two and I was scared of every feeding time... I started using a nipple shield, but the pain was still so bad I cried whenever the feeding started. My husband was telling me fo give her formula, which I refused and a lactation consultant mentioned to me after 2 weeks that I might not have enough milk... she also told me to take off the nipple shield. I got even more scared (Greta was gaining weight but very slowly) and as my nipples were almost healed, I took off the nipple shields, went cold turkey and never looked back. By this time I was aware of the Thompson method, we read the articles, a book and watched the videos together with my husband and were blown away by the information that was clear and sooo logical in them. So I started feeding Greta by this method and now there is no more crying, blood or panic. My milk is more than enough, and Greta gained 900 grams since her release from the hospital. Thank you for all the support and information, without this method and this group I would still be very lost and scared.

I came across The Thompson Method on Instagram before I even found out I was pregnant. I went back and forth about purchasing, but in the end decided it would be worth it, especially after watching a friend of mine struggle to breastfeed because of nipple trauma. I am so glad that I did, because after latching in the birthing center right away and over the first 3 days, my baby decided he didn’t want to latch once my milk came in and would scream in frustration. I tried a few things from the videos, but couldn’t get him to latch. Out of desperation, I tried nipple shields and he latched on immediately! After less than 2 weeks with the nipple shields and a lot of patience, I was able to completely transition him off of them and he now latches great! Thanks to the advice and tips from The Thompson Method, my breastfeeding journey has been pain free and such a special bonding experience with my first baby! I highly recommend this program to new moms or moms who have struggled to breastfeed. The information is so valuable and really makes you feel confident!
