About The Thompson Method:

The Thompson Method is a gentle, evidence based method towards a gentle birth and pain-free breastfeeding experience. It was created by Dr Robyn Thompson, a midwife with over 45 years experience who was awarded a PhD for her research into why so many women were being discharged from hospital with painful nipple trauma and other breastfeeding complications such as engorgement & mastitis.

The Thompson Method challenges the forceful breastfeeding techniques, linked with painful nipple trauma, that are commonly taught in most hospitals. It’s for ALL women who want to breastfeed, but particularly those giving birth in the hospital system because it offers a gentle alternative to help women AVOID the most common and painful breastfeeding complications.

But it’s more than just the technique on how to get a good latch. It is that, but it’s so much more...

I was asked to share and I said I would. It might be a tad long so I’ll keep it short. But most importantly if I hadn’t found The Thompson Method, I would’ve been so lost!! Most if not all hospitals just expect you to know things and that is definitely not the case! With all the information that she/they share is so informative and it makes you feel powerful and you know your rights and it’s OK to say no and they can’t tell you no or force you into things your uncomfortable just to make them feel like they did their job. And they know how to make you feel like you said yes even though you actually didn’t, you just needed time to think things over. So when I found out I was pregnant I was kinda in shock like what, no way. Cause I had an iud in and the stats are very low of getting pregnant. Then shortly after I found The Thompson Method and I was kinda I don’t know, probably just one of them stupid things that just isn’t worth my time or money (like we all think!)! So I bit the bullet and got it, and I started listening and I was blown away with everything and I researched everything that she was saying afterwards and I said to my hubby “this lady knows her stuff” lol. Fast Foward to when I was 37 wks and 3 days I WAS in a hospital setting that does water births from the beginning and I was like man everything is coming together how I want! ( how great) well I get a call from one of the midwives (that I actually liked) saying due to my weight I am unable to do a water birth and to have to the baby on the bed. I was so broken, sad, betrayed, p*ssed, just so many emotions that I can’t describe. I asked questions beyond questions and I just kept getting ”No”. So I called actual birth centers and midwiferies and I was too far along to be accepted or they didn’t have room (now I was really hurt!) to have been strung along that far and then to be told cause I was pretty much “full term”. The hospital also told me they had mentioned it awhile ago and I said “No, i was told I might not be able to that is different from being told a direct no.” “Why wasn’t I told this when they read my birth plan out load to me in the room?” I got no answer except it was lost in communication. I had finally found a midwifery that was open and willing to take me! I was like this too good to be true but it’s the best thing that had happened and I wish I would’ve found her sooner but they say things happen for a reason! I also have a doula that will be attending 💕 I am currently 41 wks and 2 days and she expects me to have the baby within a couple days! Just know that you have a right, your right! And without this program I would’ve been so lost and just stung along like most women out there and doing what they want. I can’t recommend this program enough, I hope this helps anyone to come 💞💞💞

The techniques, information, videos and genuine support I’ve received so far has been amazing. I am 7 weeks into breast feeding and although we are still learning I do believe we have only been this successful because of the new knowledge I was armed with. With my last baby I had horrendous pain and nipple trauma due to no experience & no support. I had to stop after 4 days. I was devastated that I couldn’t make it work and was really hard on myself. I told myself I would be happy this time if I could make two weeks to give baby liquid gold, so to even get this far feels wonderful. 💛

So glad to have found TM. My first born and I had a traumatic pregnancy and due to bad advice from lactation specialists and doctors, we never were able to breastfeed. When my second born came along I was determined to at least supplement her with breast feeding. We made it almost 9 months and I couldn’t be prouder of us. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the confidence and support that this method and the Facebook group provided.

With my first baby, we struggled immensely to have a successful breastfeeding journey. There was so much mixed advice, high stress-do this, squish and shove it in his mouth type of advice that made for a very stressful unnatural experience with feeding my child. I felt that there was very poor support around helping a first time mom on that journey. I was determined to learn all I could for baby 2 and came across Dr. Thompson’s course and WOW. Night and day different with breastfeeding my second. Dr. Thompson gives such calming, practical advice that allowed me to step into this with such confidence. I recommend this for everyone I know looking for a great course on BF. She truly gave me the confidence and knowledge to have a successful breastfeeding journey for 18 months with my daughter. I can’t thank her enough, it’s pure gold.

Cannot recommend the Thompson method enough. I started the course during pregnancy which gave me so much confidence and knowledge going into motherhood and my breastfeeding journey. So far our baby is 2 weeks old, gaining over the recommended minimum weight and my milk supply is in abundance and I have zero pain. A huge success and I am loving every second of it.

I am so thankful I found the Thompson method before my second baby. I could not exclusively breastfeed my first even though I tried so hard, and the reason I can exclusively breastfeed my second is because of the Thompson method and the caring and thoughtful guidance by the team I am in heaven with this ability and so is my beautiful baby. So thank you Dr Thompson for the work that you do and the research you have put your time into, and thank you to the beautiful staff.I do and will recommend this program to everyone. PS- Stuff the hospitals in this country when it comes to breastfeeding

I learned so much from the videos. And was very empowered by the information I learned. Not just about breastfeeding but about pregnancy and labor and post partum. I was able to use what worked for me because the value is placed on informed decisions and never pressure to conform. The community is so supportive and loving and the admins and Robyn offer continual information and assistance. Ive loved the method and I've gifted it to other moms to be.

Although I successfully breastfed my first 3 babies over a year, it was not without unbearable stress about supply and needing to supplement with formula in months 6-12 at times I did not pump enough to send with them to daycare. I’m so thankful I stumbled upon this method and most importantly the community of support with my 4th baby! With what I learned, not only did I not stress ever about supply, I was able to build up to about 500 ounces in the freezer by 6 months! In addition, with this method and information, I was able to work through my baby’s reflux with minimal medication when all other kiddos were on medicine at least 9 months and it was as simple as spacing out feeds and limiting overworking her little digestive system! The admins also provided support to get me through my first ever bout with mastitis and other complications. And finally, having access to the community with other mommas in the thick of the same journey as me was something I really didn’t know I needed! Especially in the beginning, I could find help for my journey just by following other members questions and concerns and on the other side, being able to encourage and support others as I became more confident in my journey was uplifting! I tell everyone I know that’s expecting or nursing about this program. I’m thankful that this program helped my final breastfeeding journey to be so special with less stress. We are 3 days until my little one’s birthday and I feel our journey winding down - her lead - and my heart is happy and I’m proud of us. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world and supporting moms everywhere!

My little girl was born in September, we began EBF and it was ok. The latch situation wasn't ideal, but then things got worse as we ended up contracting thrush between us. I was getting a fear of feeding from the agony I was getting. I saw the Thompson Method popping up on my Facebook feed and decided to go for it. My gosh, it saved our feeding journey. 12 weeks later and we are going strong. I always said before having my little girl that I would feed for the first 6 months, now, because we've found this method, I am planning how to carry on after I go back to work in a few months. Thankful doesn't even cover it!!!

This program is a life saver! This is my third baby but first TTM baby and I can say without a doubt, it has made such a huge difference. I feel like I’ve always known about the concepts Dr. Robyn talks about, but didn’t necessarily feel that I had enough confidence to advocate for myself with my other two children and how she reinforces the importance of everything gave me what I needed to have the birth experience I was always desiring. I believe having the first 3 hours to cuddle with baby and nurse as baby wanted made all the difference in our breastfeeding journey right at the outset. Realizing the importance of proper positioning also helped a ton and I have had no pain at all. There was mild but typical “breaking in” of the nipple similar to working out a new muscle, but it lasted maybe 5 days and then I was off to nursing completely pain free whereas with my other two babies, I was in constant pain for months and just dredged through it hoping it would get better. This program saved me a lot of tears, frustration, and doubts. Thank you again to Dr. Robyn and all the support staff!

A team I would not want to live without! I felt beyond blessed to have come across The Thompson Method for research, support and correct knowledge that gave me the power to truly enjoy my third child and our beautiful breastfeeding journey. Still going strong at 35 months and absolutely loving every minute. My first two kids I struggled with. One was producing enough milk and the second one I pushed through pain during every let down while feeding and knew I wanted to do it for my son but it was rough. I share this new knowledge with every mother or soon to be mother I meet hoping others can get this knowledge to breastfeed their child and to enjoy it. I so wish I learned of it sooner but feel forever grateful for the amazing team and being able to enjoy my third child pain free and she is even lip tied. Every nurse out here in Illinois, doctors and breastfeeding consultants couldn’t help me besides giving me advice I didn’t feel comfortable with like get your baby to open their mouth and shove them on the boob quick to get a good open mouth connection. I was like no way, I didn’t feel comfortable and felt bad for my child. I loved the gentle, loving real smooth connection and approach from Dr. Robyn and her amazing team. The detailed videos and Q and A’s that covered so many topics and guided me through a beautiful journey was exactly what I wanted and needed to understand, feel comfortable and have the knowledge to be successful! It is the best thing I did for myself and my daughter. If you are debating investing and taking a chance you will not regret it and it will be a blessing for you and your child or children. Thanking the man upstairs for my hunger to learn and coming across this amazing team and knowledge! God bless you all on your breastfeeding journey!

I nursed two babies and this will be my third. I got this course a couple months ago and was watching all the videos and I cannot believe how easy it was to get him to latch the first time. He did it all by himself. I used to think babies were dumb and you had to teach them how to do it and you had to push them and force them on and it is just amazing how much easier it is this way and it does not hurt.

The Thompson Method helped me navigate various breastfeeding challenges such as my babies 'tongue & lip tie', damaged nipples, high & fast milk volume and breast refusal. Due to my damaged nipples and the searing pain I experienced during feeding my midwifes encouraged me to get it cut. However, my previous experience in getting a tongue and lip tie released was traumatic to say the least and I wanted to avoid it at all costs! The Thompson method supported my intuition and choice and after attending a fine tuning session we managed to feed successfully without the searing pain during breastfeeding and my nipples healing up slowly. The Thompson Method and in particular the rest and digest period that Dr Robyn teaches worked wonders for me and my baby! My baby was generally settled that almost slept through the night when three months old, whereas my previous four babies suffered from colic and reflux! I never realised that I had fast milk flow and how it impacted my babies digestive system until I learned about it in this program! I love Dr Robyn's passion for a better breastfeeding experience for women and their babies and wholeheartedly recommend her program!

So I purchased this program because after the unsuccessful time I had with breastfeeding my now 8 year old daughter I was determined more than ever to be successful with my son. With following this method from birth (on November 2nd) with my son he shocked me today when he was weighed at his 2 month checkup and weighed in at 11lbs 1oz, his birth weight was 7lbs 3oz and at his 1 month checkup he was 8lbs 10oz and that was on December 2nd. So grateful for this program! 😍💜

My breastfeeding experience was short with my first baby. Despite my struggles I was told by lactation consultants I was doing great with really no support for my struggles. I resorted to expressing my breasts and supplementing. During my second pregnancy I discovered The Thompson Method through a social media advertisement. I decided to give it a try knowing I wanted to try something different. I absorbed the education during my pregnancy and was fully prepared to stand up for what I wanted during my delivery and recovery so that breastfeeding with my baby would get the best and most uninterrupted start possible. Any struggles I encountered were resolved through support in the facebook club group. Baby girl just recently weaned after over a year of breastfeeding. I can honestly say, I miss it. I am a mom who likes my personal space and never really thought of breastfeeding as enjoyable but merely a necessity. I can truly say that after this journey with the Thompson method, I enjoyed breastfeeding my baby.

I knew absolutely nothing about birth and breastfeeding before I found The Thompson Method. Covid was running rampant during my pregnancy and I hadn't been able to find any birth classes other than what was provided by the hospital, either. I found The Thompson Method by coincidence when scrolling through social media one day and from then, my entire perspective on birth, babies and breastfeeding completely changed. I attended the virtual birth classes and developed my own birthing preferences based on what I had learned and regularly asked questions in the online group and always received immediate, helpful information. After my son was born, we had a few minor struggles with latch and posture etc. I was lucky enough to be asked yo attend a free group rescue video conference where all of our troubles were immediately solved. Now, my babe and I are 10 months in and there is no end in sight! I have managed to breastfeed completely painlessly and with absolutely no nipple trauma! Breastfeeding has shifted from something huge, daunting and stressful to being every bit as beautiful and magical as people very often describe it to be. I am so incredibly grateful to the Thompson Method for saving yet another baby from being unnecessarily formula fed.

The Thompson Method is a comprehensive course covering topics from pregnancy to beyond. I would highly recommend getting the course prior to your baby’s arrival. This is my second child, and breastfeeding never fully launched for multiple reasons likely tied to my postpartum health and the mismatch of advice that made my healing slower and breastfeeding more stressful. This time around, I did have two non-Thompson Method lactation consultants stop by after birth. The modifications recommended by one resulted in more discomfort. I went back to the course and made adjustments. It’s been beautiful. My son has latched himself since the first hours of birth and there’s no forcing him to the breast with nose to nipple as most consultants would advise. I highly recommend this course for those hoping to breastfeed their babies.

I can’t speak highly enough of the Thompson Method. My little girl just turned 3 months old on the 14th. I have a nearly 4-year-old boy who I struggled a great deal with feeding. Our breastfeeding journey was traumatic but I wanted to give him all I could, so I exclusively pumped and supplemented with formula the first 6 months of his life. After those first 6 months, I granted myself grace to stop pumping after I introduced solids and we continued with formula feeding until he was 1-year-old. He is a perfectly healthy, smart, handsome young man and I am proud of what I was able to give him despite our struggles. This time around I was adamant to try again. I found the Thompson Method and immediately made the purchase. Early on in my pregnancy with my girl, I poured over the videos to get all the information I never had with my boy. I felt so confident and like I finally had information that made sense! My girl and I are now 3 glorious months into our breastfeeding journey of exclusive breastfeeding with no end in sight. I have had no pain, no complications and have never been more proud of myself as a mother. All of this was possible through the Thomson Method. I do not think I would have been able to get this far without it, truly. Thank you so much for having this accessible to all mothers, no matter how they wish to feed their babies.
