About The Thompson Method:

The Thompson Method is a gentle, evidence based method towards a gentle birth and pain-free breastfeeding experience. It was created by Dr Robyn Thompson, a midwife with over 45 years experience who was awarded a PhD for her research into why so many women were being discharged from hospital with painful nipple trauma and other breastfeeding complications such as engorgement & mastitis.

The Thompson Method challenges the forceful breastfeeding techniques, linked with painful nipple trauma, that are commonly taught in most hospitals. It’s for ALL women who want to breastfeed, but particularly those giving birth in the hospital system because it offers a gentle alternative to help women AVOID the most common and painful breastfeeding complications.

But it’s more than just the technique on how to get a good latch. It is that, but it’s so much more...

Good night, I am here to share my experience so that mommies who may come across this program can feel comfortable trying it. I learned about the Thompson method via a ad on Facebook. I was sceptical at first especially being a first time mom but i wanted to be as educated and prepared as i possibly could be. I went through the materials during my last trimmer of pregnancy and i must say it had an answer for every question you could think of. The videos were really helpful especially when you feel like you are failing you could always go back and watch. My baby did not latch right away, took almost two weeks but with the information i gathered here, my midwives help and a lil persistence she did so on her own time šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚. The technique definitely helps prevent nipple pain and cracked nipples. If you are thinking about it, definitely do it. Your anxiety will decrease and they respond promptly. That was a surprise. Looking forward to enjoying many months of bonding with my baby. We are one month in. Nessa- from Antigua

Sorry for a long-winded post, butā€¦ I bought this program when I was pregnant with my third child, after two failed breastfeeding journeys with my first two. I wasnā€™t successful with my third, but gave up before reaching out for further guidance. In hindsight, I wish I would have reached out for a rescue session. My fourth is 7 weeks old and I FINALLY have an EBF baby. I had nipple damage after his first feed in the hospital. I spent the first two weeks watching and rewatching the videos. I am so thankful for this program because without it I would have given up again. I am sure we will come across more obstacles along the way, but I know the support in this program will get us through. It still seems surreal that Iā€™m able to feed my baby! ā¤ļø

This is my 4th breastfeeding journey. My last 2 ended due to the pain and low supply. Iā€™ve always seen lactation consultants and always just struggled. I knew there had to be a better way. When I saw an add for the Thompson method I knew immediately that it was an answer to my prayers. So thankful for Rachel and the rescue group. Itā€™s worth every penny!

I just want to say THANK YOU to the team!! I have made it an entire year breastfeeding and I remember those first few months being brutal! There were many a nights I was up and this group was so helpful in answering my questions at all hours! I was gifted this program by a friend for my baby shower and I will continue to gift it forward! Everyone is so encouraging, supportive and knowledgeable! It was so helpful to have links to videos that were relevant to your question AND the time point in the video to reference - this is exactly what I needed at 3a!

I used this program with my second, and it was amazing! I unsuccessfully breastfed my first and had to give up, but even the info provided on growth spurts, introducing solids etc was very helpful with my first. The second time around went so much better, and now that we are at the end of our breastfeeding journey, I can confidently say I will be recommending to others!

Success story! I believe my son is done breastfeeding and Iā€™m so sad and proud of him and of myself really. He is 3 years 2 months (almost) and the last couple days he has told me he just wants to cuddle instead of breastfeeding. Iā€™m proud of him for making this decision for himself but Iā€™m sad he is done at the same time. I didnā€™t know he was ready to stop so I had no idea our last feed would be our last, but I am still breastfeeding my daughter who is 1 year 2 months old so Iā€™m not done breastfeeding all together! Iā€™m proud of myself for not giving up. It hasnā€™t always been easy especially while I was pregnant and after giving birth. But he did so well learning to share. Iā€™m going to miss our breastfeeding cuddles but hopefully he will keep cuddling me for a long time to come! Thank you to all who have helped me through the program and issues we ran into along the way! It has been such a blessing to have a support team for this journey! ā¤ļø

Outstanding - I always knew I wanted to breastfeed but didnā€™t know where to start. I spend my whole pregnancy working my way through the course and it was the best investment I made for myself and baby. I faced the usual challenges but navigated them with confidence and never doubted my ability to nourish my baby. Everyone who wants to breastfeed should do this course, itā€™s life changing.

The Thompson Method gave me the information, confidence, and support to have a wonderful breastfeeding journey with both my children and it has been such a valuable resource for us. I genuinely recommend it to all my friends who are expecting and couldnā€™t be more glad I found it! Thank you! ā¤ļø

My little one turned one today! One year of breastfeeding, one year of seeing them fall asleep at the breast or look for it in the middle of the night. One year of being able to provide emotional support , comfort, safety, connection in this way. One year of seeing them grow in my arms, moment by moment. I feel sooo priviledged and honoured to have been able to persevere through nipple shields and misinformation from the hospital, and large breasts with flat nipples and tripple feeding and supplementing for a bit and weight gain issues and so much crying! I am also so grateful to my childā€™s perseverance with this first time mama. This program and its people trully saved my breastfeeding journey! I am forever grateful to all the vulnerable mamas, admin staff and in particular to Dawn and Dr Thompsonā€™s kindness and reassurance. You educated me, helped me feel empowered and helped me trust my body and my mamaā€™s instict. Thank you for this gift that will stay with my child through their lifetime. Pilar and baby E.

Here we are! The eve of my babyā€™s first birthday. I cannot believe how fast this year has gone!! And with The Thompson Method, this has been my smoothest breastfeeding experience of all 4 kids. Although my little man is losing interest in nursing during the day (too busy trying to keep up with his siblings), we have continued to night nurse. I donā€™t know how much longer this journey will last, but Iā€™m so proud of us for making my goal of a year ā¤ļøā¤ļø Iā€™d love to add that before using The Thompson Method, Iā€™d seen/done it all. Numerous visits with lactation consultants, cracked, bleeding nipples, clogged ducts, mastitis, low supply, over supply, being diagnosed and treated for Reynaudā€™sā€¦.: seriously if it was a breastfeeding complication you could have, Iā€™ve had it with my first 3 children. Then with number four, I learned The Thompson Method. The gentle technique and the way things are described made SO much sense. It was such a refreshing change. This has by far been my most successful and best experience. I highly recommend The Thompson Method to all of my expecting friends to help them avoid the mistakes I experienced the first few goes. If you are looking for a beautiful breastfeeding journey, buy the course. It was worth every penny ā¤ļø

Today was the first day in almost 29 months that my sweet boy didnā€™t nurse šŸ„ŗ This post is the epitome of bittersweet for me to make (definitely more bitter than sweet). It seems our breastfeeding journey has finally come to an end, and Iā€™m not really ok šŸ˜ Graydon has been weaning himself extremely gradually - going down to just once per day (in the morning when heā€™d wake up) within the last couple months. This past week he has gone from about 5 minutes to 30 seconds and then this morning, I asked him if he wanted milk and he said ā€œnoā€ šŸ„ŗ Breastfeeding has always been something I couldnā€™t wait to do. Even as a young child with my baby dolls, I would pretend to nurse them šŸ˜‚ I knew it wasnā€™t going to be easy in the beginning after all the research I had done and the paid course I took during my pregnancy, and I was so afraid I wouldnā€™t be able to for some reason. I am so grateful that I was successful and definitely donā€™t take it for granted. There were some challenges with his latch in the first few weeks and a period of about a week where it was absolutely excruciating but I REFUSED to give up so I just cried in pain every couple hours when he would latch, persevered through the agony, and it did get better. My goal was to make it to 3 years, but I am extremely proud we almost made it 2.5 šŸ„° Iā€™m confident Graydon will continue to reap the benefits of our breastfeeding journey throughout his life. I know I will always deeply cherish every special moment we shared while nursing and the bond it created. I tried to capture some moments on my phone over the last couple months, since I knew any session could be our last, but it was pretty challenging with an active toddler šŸ¤£ I never ever want to forget this season šŸ¤šŸ¤šŸ¤

I'm so grateful for the Thompson Method. Just 10 days after my C section, my second baby is breastfeeding beautifully. We had our "3 Golden Hours" right in recovery, and she achieved a perfect latchā€”something the midwife and ward staff were amazed to see! I've had no breastfeeding pain at all, which I credit entirely to this program. After struggling to breastfeed my first child due to poor advice from lactation consultants and hospital staff, I'm incredibly thankful for the guidance from this program. A huge thanks to Dr. Robyn and the team for enabling the precious bonding experience I've always yearned for.

I really was appreciative of having a resource to support me in my breastfeeding journey. My daughter and I made it 14 months breastfeeding before she self-weaned and we really valued the resources from the Thompson Method, which also empowered my husband to support me through this experience. I really value quantitative data so I kind of struggled with that a bit since the Thompson Method doesn't really provide that, rather mostly anecdotal experiences. Honestly, though, I found it to be a nice change of pace from all the facts and figures presented in motherhood and really encouraged me to learn to trust my gut and understand my rights and follow my own intuition because every mother and baby are different. I'm really thankful I found such an empowering resource.

I had an unplanned c section Saturday evening after laboring without medication for 24 hours šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« Turns out this little (big) guy was in a posterior position and 9lbs 10oz! (We had no idea how big he would be!) One of my biggest fears surrounding a possible unplanned c section was breastfeeding. Itā€™s obviously still day 1 of my little guyā€™s life, but hospital staff respected my plan to implement the Thompson Method even after a c section and I am happy to say we had our skin to skin and golden hours post surgery, and he latched with face symmetry almost immediately šŸ„¹ I may not have had the birth of my dreams, but I am hopeful we can still have a beautiful breastfeeding journey. Weā€™ve got this, c-section mamas!! šŸ©µ A new nurse on rotation did come by to try and forcefully have him latch even after Iā€™d found success, but I was like no thank you lady! Thank you Thompson Method for empowering me.

Milkstache! Miss Nell is 4 days old today and breast feeding like a champ. Your courses helped me prepare for an induced labor, an unexpected c section and immediate breast feeding. Knowledge is power and comfort šŸ’œ

I always knew I wanted to breastfeed my child(ren) and I just thought it ā€˜happenedā€™ naturallyā€¦how wrong I was! It is so difficult but also so rewarding and satisfying knowing you are giving your child the best start in life ā€“ something I could not have done without the Thompson method, Beautiful Breastfeeding programme and Dr Robyn and Susannaā€™s help, encouragement and support. I deliberated about buying into the Thompson method resources for a while ā€“ surely I didnā€™t need a course to know how to feed my baby?! I was desperate to get it right and once I had joined and asked a few questions on the page, Susanna asked if I want to join her Beautiful Breastfeeding programme. I said yes, and, if I hadnā€™t, I know I wouldnā€™t have looked through all the resources which were so vital in helping me to breastfeed successfully as I tried to get everything ready for my first child. It was the perfect way to go through the most important things like how to hold and position your baby and be able to ask questions. My eyes began to open to all that was involved. The education I received from the course was invaluable as I learnt about my body, how milk production works (wow ā€“ your body is amazing!), how to achieve a good latch and so much more! I was able to choose to incorporate important things into my birth plan I would never have known about, like the 3 Golden Hours, insist on no interventions and start that first important feed, understanding how to work with my sleepy baby following a c-section because he was breach and feeling reassured that I knew what to do. Following the birth of my baby, it was all going so well as he latched and started his first feed. Then, about an hour after my baby was born, I had a major haemorrhage, lost consciousness and everything started to go wrong! Baby ended up skin-to-skin with Dad and when I woke 3 hours later, he was starving. Thankfully my birth plan had stated no formula, so there had been no intervention, but I struggled to get colostrum (I hadnā€™t managed to express any before his birth), managing only a couple of drops a feed. And so it beganā€¦ He lost 15% of his birth weight and had urate crystals in his urine, so the pressure was on, having been told I was ā€œstarvingā€ my baby, ā€œmaking him illā€, was going to ā€œput him in intensive careā€ because he wasnā€™t getting enough food and I ā€œneededā€ to give him formula. Thankfully, I had the angel that was Susanna on Whatsapp messenger. She called on the advice of a midwife and they reassured me that I could do it without the help of formula, they advised me to express and supplement with syringe feeding. They gave me to the courage and confidence to resist the ā€˜quick fixā€™ and pressure from the hospital, and keep trying. For a week I barely slept, persevered trying to latch my baby for a feed, then expressing and topping him up ā€“ determined not to give him formula! We did it! On day 4 my milk came in and, on day 6, he had gained some of his birth weight so we were allowed to go home with a feeding plan. Then the nipple trauma started! Again, Susanna supported me with video calls and Dr Robyn was able to observe a feed too and helped me with fine-tuning. Following Susannaā€™s suggestion, I took my baby to a chiropractor (I wish I had done this sooner!) and after 14 long weeks, we finally had some comfortable feeds having navigated fast flow, ignored people saying that my milk wasnā€™t enough when he kept crying for more, and avoided mastitis following multiple milk blebs and blocked ducts (again, the advice was invaluable ā€“ I wouldnā€™t have had a clue!) When our journey began, I wanted to get to 6 weeks. Then I wanted to get to 6 months, then until he got teeth(!), and 10 months on, we are still going strong. I cannot thank Susanna and her Beautiful Breastfeeding course enough, Dr Robyn for her time and the Thompson Method. It makes me sad when I hear so many people say they have not ā€˜been able toā€™ breastfeed, and have given up because they havenā€™t ā€˜got enough milkā€™. I know I wouldā€™ve done the same if I hadnā€™t have had access to the resources, seen the questions and responses on the Facebook page and been able to ask Susanna for advice and resources every time I was unsure (which has been a lot ā€“ she has had the patience of a saint!) So with the most sincere, heartfelt thanks to everyone involvedā€“ thank you for helping me to give my baby the best gift ever ā€“ our beautiful breastfeeding journey!

I came across the Thompson method during my pregnancy, I thought ide give breastfeeding a go however was nervous due to everything I heard about it being painful and issues with clogged ducts and mastitis. Following this model not only helped me in labour with regards to my choices but itā€™s given me the most amazing breastfeeding experience with my son. Not a single issue with his latch or pain ect. Still going exclusively breastfeeding at 21 months now. I highly recommend this model. Honestly itā€™s shaped my whole motherhood journey

Breastfeeding journey has it's ups and downs but thankful for this program/group. Remember the night I found it, felt like a miracle. Premie boy couldn't open his mouth wide for a wide latch. He'd scream coming to breast because of the forceful technique shown in hospital. Would take sometimes half hour to latch. First try with this program he latched in minutes! Minutes! Couldn't believe it. We still have changes and hard feeds. But he's doing good. He used to refuse left. Through program found out I had partially inverted/flat nipple. With nipple former you can now see he latches with no problem. Thank you all! He's 17 weeks and hopefully as time goes, we'll be able to stick through all the changes. Thank you again!

This method was EVERYTHING for our journey to just shy of 3 years! I would never have made it past three weeks had I not invested the time to learn what The Thompson Method had to offer. I 100% recommend this community, it is worth every penny and more. They even helped the weaning process with their tips and tricks!

I was unable to breastfeed with my first two but this method gave me the tools I needed to feel confident and succeed with my third! March 28 I made it to our 1 year of breastfeeding! All of the videos and information broken out really helped to focus on what you needed to know but being able to ask questions about your unique circumstance is invaluable.
