About The Thompson Method:

The Thompson Method is a gentle, evidence based method towards a gentle birth and pain-free breastfeeding experience. It was created by Dr Robyn Thompson, a midwife with over 45 years experience who was awarded a PhD for her research into why so many women were being discharged from hospital with painful nipple trauma and other breastfeeding complications such as engorgement & mastitis.

The Thompson Method challenges the forceful breastfeeding techniques, linked with painful nipple trauma, that are commonly taught in most hospitals. It’s for ALL women who want to breastfeed, but particularly those giving birth in the hospital system because it offers a gentle alternative to help women AVOID the most common and painful breastfeeding complications.

But it’s more than just the technique on how to get a good latch. It is that, but it’s so much more...

I love The Thompson Method. It has helped me so much with my breastfeeding journey... I definitely recommend the program to anyone who wants to breastfeed and beyond. Breastfeeding is definitely not easy and the program and the private support group has been so supportive and helpful! I've been exclusively breastfeeding my youngest since day one thanks to The Thompson Method. When there are struggles, keep going because success is only around the corner. When you feel down, get support, don’t wait! I failed to breastfeed my first. I wanted so badly to succeed but the pain was just too much. I wish I had found this program and support group back then. I know things would have turned out a lot differently. Thank you for the expert advice and support you have given me. You have given us a precious gift and bond. I will be forever grateful 💕

I wanted to drop you a line to say thank you Dr Robyn and the The Thompson Method breastfeeding support team for all of the wonderful work you do. Thanks to you I've been breastfeeding for almost 2 years now. The course and support has given me the knowledge and confidence that made it possible to EBF for this long. I am so proud. In my circle of friends, I'm the only one who has made it this long breastfeeding. Needless to say I've been telling them all about your method. This is not a post to boast, but to say thank you! It wouldn't have been possible without you, your method and your wonderful team!

With my first baby, breastfeeding was not a possibility as I was starting chemo ten days after he was born. I was heartbroken but I needed to get myself well. I wanted to breastfeed for that short time but I didn’t find any education on the topic and when I was taught how to feed my baby, the forceful technique did not set well with me at all. I tried on my own and did my best those short ten days. We were extremely excited when we found out we were pregnant again and our son was so happy to welcome his sibling. I enrolled in prenatal classes (I definitely needed a refresher course after 12 years) and researched education, lactation groups and all sorts of supplies I thought I needed for breastfeeding. Thanks to the magic of Facebook ads, The Thompson Method popped up in my feed and after a few days, I took a listen and for me, it just made sense. I purchased the program and began going through the videos. Our prenatal classes we’re cancelled due to Covid but I learned so much though the modules that were provide. It gave me so much knowledge especially during a time of so much unknowns. I had an amazing experience overall. I was stressed about having gestational diabetes at first, but I worked to get it under control and was able to deliver baby at 40 weeks. When it came time to have my three golden hours, I was amazed at how my baby’s instincts were working being minutes old. That magical moment and the last 365 days during this journey would have not been possible without all the knowledge I obtained through this program and the support from the admins in this groups. I did have a bit of pain by day three but I found the fine tuning resources to help me through that and the responsive from the team to help me resolve that quickly. There were tough days and but we worked through the challenges one day at a time. Dr. Robyn, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your dedication to helping women and for this wonderful community. I don’t think I’d have had the success without your program and the confidence it instilled in me to trust my instincts. This has been one of the hardest things I’ve done but also the more rewarding.

I can’t love this program enough! I want the world to know about it! When I was pregnant, an ad appeared on my Facebook feed about The Thompson Method. I asked around and no one had heard of it. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend the money and have it be useless information. I pondered it for awhile and finally decided to take the plunge. You see, my sister was convinced she couldn’t breastfeed and I didn’t want that to be the case with me. Well I’m thrilled to announce I’ve presently breastfed my baby for almost an entire year! No bottles, pacifiers, nipple shields, nipple trauma, and no ending in sight! The content is rich and full of insight and deep knowledge. It’s gentle and beautiful just like Dr. Robyn herself! I came to be soothed and in love with her voice and her being! I’m so eternally grateful to Dr. Robyn for producing a program with her knowledge as a midwife. It’s more than just a breastfeeding course. It’s pregnancy, birthing, postpartum, and breastfeeding support. It should be the new authority. Thank you Dr. Robyn 💕 ~Sherry

Just wanted to say thank you so very much for the advice I am confidently and happily breastfeeding my 11 week old baby girl. I would have given up if I hadn’t have found you. Thank you Dr Robyn and team for making my last baby the most enjoyable breastfeeding experience.

I started the program a couple of months before I gave birth. My girl decided to come 4.5 weeks early so I didn't have time to make it through and we had a very rough start. We eventually got the hang of it and made it to a year before mama weaned because I was ready for freedom! I learned things about breastfeeding that I'd never heard anyone talk about (like what the heck is colostrum?). I still share the program with many women.

The Thompson method helped me to be well prepared for my labor, delivery and especially my breastfeeding journey. Thanks to this method I was well informed of my rights and confident going into the biggest experience of my life. Following the Thompson method I was able to successfully breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months and still breastfeed casually at 17 months. If it wasn’t for the knowledge and support I received from the team when there were a couple bumps in the road I would have quit after the first week. I love how this method is so focused on trusting your motherly instincts and not doing what doesn’t feel right . 100% recommend this to anyone who’s goal is to successfully breastfeed. Thank you Dr Robyn and team

I don’t normally write reviews but felt compelled to share my story in hopes that it inspires at least one Mom to give The Thompson Method a go. With my first baby everything went wrong. I had cracked, bleeding nipples and that was before I left the hospital! We struggled through nipple shields, breast refusal and supply issues. I ended up pumping for 4 months before throwing in the towel. I was mentally exhausted.

When I fell pregnant with my 2nd I knew I had to educate myself on breastfeeding. Sounds silly right? Why is something so natural so hard for some so many women?

Anyway, I saw a video of Dr Robyn talking about the 3 Golden Hours and right then I knew why my 1st breastfeeding journey had gotten off to such a terrible start. I was naive and put my faith in the hospital system.

I watched more videos of Dr Robyns and everything she said just made so much sense to me. I signed up to her course at 24 weeks and studied it to pieces! Even though I was having a scheduled c-section I went into the hospital prepared with my birth and breastfeeding plan and was determined to get my 3 Golden Hours.

My midwife was amazing, she read my plan and was totally on board with all of my wishes. Instead of getting 3 hours, we got the first 5 precious hours together. He latched beautifully, there was no pain and I cried tears of joy.

And here we are today 7 months EBF. I couldn’t be prouder. The bonding experience has been truly special.
I will be forever grateful for everything this course has taught me. The knowledge and confidence the Thompson Method has given me is truly priceless. A big thanks to the wonderful group that comes with the course for all of the support. ❤️

Participating in this method and going through the coursework helped me achieve breast feeding success and reassured me with taking the actions I needed to establish a successful breastfeeding relationship with my infant son. I'd recommend this course to anyone.

We would have stopped breastfeeding after two weeks if it hadn’t have been for The Thompson method! I didn’t even know if I wanted to breastfeed while I was pregnant but he was born and COVID had just become a thing and people were panic buying so we couldn’t get formula even if I’d wanted to so I become determined to get this breastfeeding thing down pat! With the help of Skype calls with Dr Robyn and the beautiful community she has created we managed to feed well past 12 months when he self weaned. The Thompson method makes so much sense! It’s so gentle and loving. I now get a membership for any pregnant friends as a baby shower gift! 🥰

When this popped up on my Facebook page I thought, here we go, FB is stalking me with nappy bags and all things I should purchase for my baby. However I hovered, read reviews and reflected back to the emotional and physical trauma I had trying to breastfeed my first. When second baby was on the way I was still not given much education on how to breastfeed. I was scared, I did not want to feel a failure again and wanted to prepare myself. I did not hesitate any further, the price was cheaper then a month of formula. The support from The Thompson Team is outstanding. The knowledge, understanding and professionalism continues to support my BF journey. I have overcome challenges in early breastfeeding with prompt support from the TTM team. I feel they are always by my side and part of my family. I feel like Dr Robyn is my cyber mum who has guided me with such a gentle, nurturing manner with a phenomenal amount of research, evidence based practice and personal understanding. Words do not describe the thanks that I have for the TTM team for supporting me, and helping me develop a maternal bond with my baby that’s beyond this universe. Thank you💗

I highly recommend the Thompson Method. I watched much of the training prior to having my first baby, and I had one lactation session with them after baby was born. And then we were off and running! Baby is now 11 months old, and we are happily breastfeeding without pain. When I talk to other moms, I am constantly surprised how little they know about breastfeeding. Even the basics of what Dr Robyn teaches is new to them. The people I know who used Dr Robyn’s training are the ones who get off to a better start breastfeeding. If you are on the fence, just do it! The cost of the training is nothing if it means you might not have to buy formula for a year. So grateful to Dr Robyn and team for their expertise, compassion and empowerment!

I just wanted to share my experience with Dr Robyn's program... When I had my first child, 5 years ago, I was bombarded with "helpful" advice from everyone, old, young, midwives, neighbors, even strangers in shopping centers! AND of course I googled everything! All of this together increased anxiety and confused me so much I almost stopped breastfeeding, thankfully I persevered and breastfed my daughter for 13 months (with quite a few bumps in the road).
This time around I stumbled across The Thompson Method, bought the program and joined the club! Our baby, Ned, is now 13 days old and I have asked questions twice already (hence why I wrote so far at the start of this post). Both times my questions have been answered promptly and clearly, resulting in a calm mummy, which of course = calm baby! I love the videos as you can watch them as needed.

I have been showing the videos to my husband too, then he is on the same page as me the whole time and not questioning why I'm doing something different to the day before etc. 😊  I trust the information that Dr Robyn gives as it is evidence based, not an opinion that worked well for someone else's baby. This time around, I will have a guided journey by one person and feel more confident to not listen to the opinions of others. Thanks Dr Robyn and Joanne 😍

Huge thanks to Dr. Robyn and the Thompson Method Team. In just one week, we will have reached our 1 year mark of breastfeeding! If you would have asked me a few days after my baby girl was born, I would have told you that I would be thankful to make it to 3 months breastfeeding- but here we are going strong at nearly 12 months with no end in sight and I am 20 weeks pregnant with baby #2. I am thankful for the gentle approach and encouragement to always trust my maternal instincts that Dr. Robyn and the Thompson Method gave me! We were able to overcome many hurdles including weaning off nipple shields, weaning off of formula and facing the fear of not enough weight gain. I am so glad I will have all of the knowledge from the Thompson Method going into my journey with baby #2! Thank you for everything you are doing for breastfeeding mothers around the world Dr. Robyn!

Hi everyone! I'm a first time mum to a 3 month old boy, and if you'd told me a month ago that soon I would ENJOY breastfeeding I would have laughed and/or cried at you. I was spiraling badly and in a horrible place. I'd had shredded nipples, mastitis five times, I was feeding through nipple shields, I had a massive oversupply and was pumping multiple times a day to try to get relief. I wasn't coping and I cried to my husband "I don't want to do this anymore!" Always the level-headed one, he said "what's one more thing we can try before we stop breastfeeding?" So I bought The Thompson Method breastfeeding course and joined her private club. One month on I no longer have an oversupply, I don't need to pump, I don't use shields, I haven't had any more mastitis or blocked ducts, and the pain is gone!! When he feeds it feels like light tickling or gentle tugging, whereas I used to grit my teeth in pain. Most importantly, my stress and anxiety around feeding is gone. I actually look forward to our feeds now. The course is by far the best money I've spent as a new mum.

My little guy is 1 month old today! That means 1 month exclusively breastfeeding! It has had its trying moments and a time or two I thought I wasn’t going to be able to keep going (from exhaustion) but here we are and I am so happy about it!! ❤️ Thank you to The Thompson Method for educating me before he was ever born so this breastfeeding journey is even possible!

The Thompson Method works! I really struggled breastfeeding my first baby. I was taught forceful techniques that caused me so much nipple pain and trauma, I struggled with high volume, mastitis, my little one had so much reflux, I ended up with low supply… and I didn’t know how to fix any of it. I had “help” from health professionals but none of it really helped or worked. I persevered and managed to breastfeed for 10 months, but it wasn’t without so many tears. When I was pregnant with my second I saw a Facebook ad about the Thompson Method. I was curious and decided to purchase the program. I educated myself in pregnancy. Doing so helped me understand where I had gone wrong with my first baby and it helped me prepare for my second baby. I ended up booking a consultation with Dr Robyn Thompson as soon as my baby was born and she helped me so much. The first few weeks were tough but this time I had the tools and education to deal with any challenges I was experiencing. My baby self weaned at 15 months and I’m so glad I had this wonderful second chance. The Breastfeeding Program was worth every single penny!
