Watch reviews are obviously very subjective as people have different tastes and requirements. I wasn't even looking for a watch of this size or thickness, or even this colour dial, but something about the design, especially the dial, drew me in. This is a watch that reveals itself in stages. On the surface it's a very bold looking watch with muscular, steep angled lugs and a thick polished case with a flush turbine effect bezel. But the dial is as understated as you could imagine: a pearl white face, silver hands with eggshell luminescence and lumed pips (or pontoons) which emerge from a dark chapter ring, barely noticeable unless seen from an angle. All the text and markings are in a thin small font apart from Sceptre in bold but this is smaller than the brand name, and together with the 20 Atmospheres and British Design, are aligned centrally and vertically. Opposite each hour is small inset plus sign like on a nautical map which is a lovely detail that you only notice if looking closely. The bezel when looked at horizontally is also as understated a bezel as one could imagine, with indented arrowheads on each hour apart from one small red one. The effect of the glass makes interesting reflections and shadows in the sun, and reflected objects have optical rather than mirrored images, like looking at someone's spectacle glasses magnifying glass, which, when 'looking through' to the dial, has the effect of looking through water. And the second hand has a red painted end at the counterweight position which I only noticed in strong sunlight, and was a welcome surprise. For me this is a summer weekend watch. It's a joy to look at and is comfortable to wear. Don't be put off by it's dimensions: I think the white dial colour and dark inner chapter ring, plus the short thick 22mm lugs and it's case thickness actually work better than thinner watches at this diameter, and combined with the type of glass used actually make it appear smaller than it should. Other points to note: the ribbed strap looks and feels great although I swapped it for another as my wrist was too small. The lume could be stronger but because the pips are small you shouldn't expect too much: it's not really there for all night time telling but look great when you've come indoors from the sunshine. All in all another great watch which reels you in and grows on you, rather than boasting all its assets at once.
