Having just completed construction of a 40x60 shop, I wanted to preserve / protect the investment in my concrete floor from stains. I was looking for a clear coat to use on about 2000sf that showed the natural concrete, not a thick epoxy coating. I purchased 6 gallons of the satin U140 for the job.
Knowing all stains and marks would show through, I spent a day with a rented heavy floor scrubber followed by multiple moppings with clear water. The concrete was allowed to dry for several days. Before application I couldn't comprehend of a floor coating that would cover 800sf to the gallon so I know I spread the product a bit thin. The first day I applied two coat about 6 hours apart. I applied a third coat the second day and a forth coat the third day.
I allowed a week before driving on the finished floor with ATVs, pickup truck, travel trailer, cargo trailer, and cat2 tractor. None left a mark on the floor.
Preparation and application was fairly easy. The process and my insights include:
I measured out the sf in sections to ensure an even coat but I still spread product thin;
I used a garden type sprayer and roller for the entire application (a pad type applicator might be easier);
With my wife spraying and me rolling we could put down a gallon in an hour so that's the most I would mix;
The initial application took a little more time. Subsequent applications went progressively quicker;
Take into consideration the weather. The weather changed during our application and it rained and became cooler. The saving grace for us was that our shop is fully enclosed. We allowed longer times between coats which seemed to work.
The finished floor looks EXACTLY as envisioned. It looks clean and should be easy to keep it that way. If it stands up over time as I believe it will, I will undoubtedly use again on future projects.
