The first item came defective, and I'm still waiting for the replacement (over a month later) so in terms of customer service, I'm not that impressed. The metal pieces that keep the grill sliding along the columns were not properly made so the grill was entirely stuck in the channel.
Other than that, however, this grill is going to work exactly as I'd hoped. It's the perfect size for the standard Home Depot 28'' (inner diameter) fire pit liner, almost like they were built for each other. Once I receive the replacement I'm hoping to fire up the pit and get to grilling. The reason the height adjustment is so important is that firewood is hard to regulate, especially when I use a mix of maple and locust, and I never want flames hitting my food. Sometimes I don't have the time to wait for charcoals to form so the height adjustment on this grill will help me cook at whatever state the fire is at.
The picture is of the defective unit. It can be placed at that height but it won't move up and down yet.
