Bhutan is a fantastic place to bike. Apart from the road between Paro and Thimpu, there is little traffic and the roads are in great condition. The climbs are stupendous but never too steep. But they are long and high! One pass was just under 4000m. The descents were fantastic! Art of the Bicycle contract out to local guides. Our guide Sonam and the driver Jamsung were wonderful. The accommodation was great and varied from four star hotels to a homestay where we had a hot stone bath. We were on hard tail mountain bikes which were fine but I would have preferred my road or gravel bike. Next time! The only draw back for Bhutan is the tourist tax. If it wasn't so expensive, we would have stayed longer and gone further east. Finally, there is the beauty of the mountains and valleys, the magnificence of the temples and monasteries, and the friendliness of the Bhutanese. We hope to be back!
