The rear channel impedes access a bit and given that you can't, and probably shouldn't, put anything too heavy up there, it's probably thicker than it needs to be.
It would have been a nice touch if all the bolts were a bit shorter and had been supplied with dome nuts, both for aesthetics and to eliminate scratch points.”
