The vet gave me a 20 gauge but since I have a 5.7lb. Chihuahua it seemed a little big and hard for me to insert. I think this will be a little more comfortable for her and me

These needles come individually wrapped and in a box. Sometimes the box is bent or torn, but I haven't seen any damage to the needles so far. One thing I haven’t seen is a capsule to absorb the moisture. Maybe they don’t do this because they are shipped in the same box as the lactate ringers. By the way, our veterinarian gave us a fast and neat idea for giving fluids to our old kitty, who was having trouble staying hydrated. They used an 18g x 1 ½ inch needle screwed onto a 60-ml syringe. The problem was that the needle they used was too long. It made a bigger hole in my cat's body. The other problem was that when we tried this at home, the needle was going through one side and coming out the other end. And sometimes my husband would prick his own finger, which meant we had to use another needle. On top of that, I was worried about the harm that big needle was doing to my cat and the risk of puncturing another organ. I’m not sure if we called other vets or found this one on our own, but finding this 1-inch needle took away many of my fears. With a restraining bag, my husband could unscrew the 1-inch needle and screw on another 60 ml syringe, safely, without sticking the cat twice or puncturing his fingers. We still use the 18g x 1 1/2 inch size to draw the lactate ringers out of it's bag into the syringes and this needle we reuse for this purpose alone. After the syringes are filled we remove the long needle and screw on a fresh 18g x 1 inch needle, which we use once every morning. That way it is less painful for my cat and causes the least amount of damage to his body. The prices here make it affordable to be as kind to our cat as we are able to. Thank you Allivet.
