“According to my vet Vetoryl is the best medication available to control Cushing's Disease. Is it the cheapest? No. I wish it were more affordable for everyone so more dogs would be more likely to be treated. My dog was diagnosed with pituitary-dependent Cushing's disease at 7 years old and given a life expectancy of 2 years. I did some research and found out that is not always accurate and my dog would actually be able to live out a full life. The life expectancy given of 2 years was due to most dogs being diagnosed late in life (14 years old is average diagnosis age). For her she simply developed Cushing's disease early but there was no reason to believe her life would be cut short. Here we are 5-6 years later on Vetoryl and she is doing very well. Due to yearly testing and the occasional dosage increase the vet says my dog is at "optimal cortisol levels". When she was originally diagnosed she had lost a lot of muscle tone, her belly became flabby from fat displacement, she was losing her hair in chunks, her skin was turning tough & black in certain areas and she was drinking so much water that she would pee in the house several times a day. Within a few days of starting the Vetoryl her water intake was back to normal so she no longer peed in the house. That in itself made the meds worth it! After a few months on Vetoryl her skin and hair improved drastically. As of today (5-6 years later) she is still on the meds and she is doing very well. Her skin is completely pink as it should be, her hair is fully regrown, she has very little belly fat and she never drinks water in excess. Her muscle tone has not been what it once was but considering she is 13 years old that is to be expected. For anyone on the fence about this medication believe me it works. Now if they would just make it more affordable...”
“Allivet has the best price on Vetoryl. Their autoship program is pretty woofin', too. They send email reminders and offer the chance to change the shipment date, if necessary. I'm hoping I need their services for a long time to come!”
