About the Plant:
This plant loves nice damp soil and lightly shaded to sunny locations. Similar to many mints, Forest Mint’s rootstalks creep horizontally through the soil, increasing territory, while the stem may stand tall or creep along as well. The leaves are long compared to Peppermint and round compared to Spearmint. In mid-late summer, Forest Mint can produce small lilac purple flowers in dense clusters within branched tapering spikes. Amrita’s Organic Forest Mint is Steam-Distilled from the aerial parts of the plant. This yield gives a slightly golden-yellow colored essential oil with a unique aroma.
Where it Grows:
Forest Mint is native to Europe, Asia and Africa.  Amrita’s Organic Forest Mint is grown in the flat, river-filled expanses of Albanian farmlands.
Traditional Uses and Lore:
Forest Mint, better known as Horsemint or Wild mint, has been a household staple in many areas of Europe, Asia, and Africa. While being a popular folk remedy and used in culinary flavoring, Iran and other countries used parts of the plant in traditional medicine. Over the years, it has been administered as a tea for coughs, colds, stomach cramps, asthma, gas, indigestion, and headaches, and used in compresses to treat wounds and swollen glands.* Forest mint was also commonly strewn around houses and granaries to ward off rodents; lastly, it was rubbed on skin to repel mosquitoes.*
In the 1650’s Nicholas Culpeper’s “Complete Herbal” cited uses for the herb such as the decoction of it helping bad breath, stuffed noses, and (when mixed with vinegar) dandruff.*

Mint Forest Organic Essential Oil is like taking a mental stroll through a lightly wooded European forest. The scent of this golden yellow oil is reminiscent of a pleasant blend of peppermint and rosemary with light undertones of spearmint. The slightly woody tones mellow some of the sharpness associated with most mints while still having the same nasal clearing and mind refreshing properties.*
