“First time I've used a Super Heat 3kW Catalytic Portable Gas Heater. I'm used to the old style. Really impressed with this heater. On the high heat it will warm the lounge very fast. It does use quite a bit of gas that way, so now we have the heater on the low heat. It will still raise the temperature, but not as fast. The only quibble is the igniter. Took a while to get the knack of lighting it, but now have it sorted. A bit pricey, but worth it.”

First, the manufacturer recommends burning the heater outside for the first four hours at its highest heat output to cure any oils or resins used in the manufacturing process.
Once it has been burned outside it will no longer produce a 'chemical smell', but gas is still being burned inside this heater, the combustion process is happening. Every action has a reaction and the output can be a smell that some customers can pick up on depending on how sensitive they are to it.
if you have not used a gas heater before we would recommend visiting someone that has one and spending some time around it to ensure it would not affect you.
