Everything you'll read in these reviews are no joke. All the length you'll need. All the warmth you'll need. It's snug as all get out. It feels like your head is in a vice if that vice was the paws of a giant teddy bear. It has a removable DOD tag on the outer and a simple ID tag inside, nothing else in the way to make it uncomfortable. Grab it in the dark and slap it on your head, no worries of it being in the wrong orientation. The women in my family all noted how bizarre a the knit patter is. Seemingly tight but also very loose and breathable. The wool itself feels different than other wool clothes I own but I think that's because of the knit style. It's barely itchy before washing unlike some wool surplus I've obtained over the years. I got the navy blue. It is an incredibly deep and dark navy, almost looks black in low light but frankly I prefer it.

Have to be one of the best beanies i've owned, you can feel the warmth as soon as you put it on. Being all wool its not surprising, excellent quality.

Firstly it's hard to find a warm beanie not adorned with some logo! This one is just a simple heavy weave pure wool beanie, all I wanted: I don't like turning my head into a brand billboard! Good length, I have a really big head, extended it covers most of my neck. A simple functional no nonsense solution to staying warm. Excellent quality and more then comparable price to contemporary fashion statements.

I was tired of the housewife made thin affairs I put up with on Ebay, but I had to buy them as I wanted real wool and you wont easily find it on the mass commercial market, or much less anywhere else these days without paying an arm and a leg. But even this wont assure you form, function and performance over fashion. With me pure wool is only the first hurdle, there are others: Weave, thickness of materials (for the job), build quality then function- this beanie delivers. The last pure merino wool beanie I had, had a cuff that was too long. This made the sides of my head too hot and the top cold. Not the case with this beanie, the cuff is shorter and the weave and thickness are good. I like that- so material is thick, while not being overdone- I would say it is as thick as the Czech gloves, but the weave is more sparse (stretch knit), while still being tight knit - I cannot see holes in the material like I could with the Ebay one and ones from the past. Mainly to be worn at night and on crisp mornings, but I chose green for versatility. There is a removable US Department of Defense tag attached clearly confirming the cap is 100% wool and made to genuine military specifications. Fit is good for a standard sized head, but one size fits most in this case I think, hence the stretch knit and you have a choice of classic colours.
