“This kit is easy to install and is very functional. I like the minimalist lights too. Local pick up for Utah was super cool too. Couple notes as of December 2021-For JK you have to either tap out the metal nuts that seat the top two license plate holes to thread get them through or simply drill your own holes. The video on the JL install shows that the delete plate for the JL has two separate holes already so I went ahead and drilled my own holes.-the wiring comes encased in a higher quality sleeve which was awesome. The heat shrink connectors seemed kinda junky. If you can solder them together thats best if not wire nuts and a lot of electrical tape is good too. The two connectors that come are also different. They explained well in the video that the MALE connector gets the FEMALE wire prongs and vice versa. Just replicate that even though they look different.-Its super hard to feed the two wires and the sheath through the rubber plug that contains the wiring to the license plate lights. I just used my pocket knife to cut a separate hole.-be careful popping off the back panels. There is a little piece of trim that contains a plastic piece that pops into the metal paneling. When I removed it a circular black plastic piece thats used as a clip for the metal pin fell out. Dont wanna lose that.-Great product and im excited to see how it holds up. I always hand wash my vehicle but someone who goes through the car wash might wanna be a little more careful as the LEDs seem sturdy but did make me wash the tailgate a little more carefully.”
“I love these lights on my spare delete on my JL. The design is well done everything you need is included and the light output works well even with a plate frame. So why only 4 stars Well the reason for the rating is the install. The install is pretty straight forward with a YouTube video being very helpful. However if you have bumper backup sensors like I do do NOT cut off the plug to the rear bumper like the video tells you to. The reason I didnt realize until too late is that plug also contains the electrical for the bumper sensors. Luckily the video says to leave pigtails in case you ever want to return to stock which I did. So I was able to wire up the sensors again and just move the light. But it was a pain and something they should change about the video. Overall though very happy with my purchase.”
“Lights ultimately work well but I was sent different connectors than whats pictured. I wouldve definitely preferred the ones shown in the photo but I wasnt looking to delay my install. Everything else included in the kit was great especially the sleeved wire included. Feeding the wire through the tailgate and out of the tub took a few turns but the high quality wire will definitely have no issue where ever you choose to feed it too. Lil tip if you have the sensors in your bumper. The harness thats under the drivers side tail light has the license plate light plus all the sensor wires bundled in there. I found it easier to just unplug the license plate light from the housing and tap into there. I also routed the wire from the tailgate down thru the hole where the jack storage is which ended up being a shorter run if that helps anyone.”
“I ordered this kit to light the spare tire license plate bracket for my wifes Jeep (see my other review) at the suggestion of Artecs customer service. This is not a wholly suitable substitute. Im confident however that it is great if you use it for the specific application for which it was designed. The threads andor diameter of the threaded portion of the lights are not the same as the threads for the threaded holes on the license plate bracket. Because I was reluctant to drill out the holes on the bracket (still an option) I was only able to mount one of these lights in the unthreaded hole in the center of the license plate bracket. The small parts kit was also incomplete--its different than the one pictured on the item as of 7272020. Two of the small gaskets were missing for the plug bodies. Finally the small wires from the lights are exposed to the elements if you mount them to the license plate bracket and there is nothing in the kit to protect them.Because I only mounted one light the pin connections were a bit of a problem (theyre designed to hold two wires and not one). When I wired them up initially the connection sometimes came loose. I wound up ordering a set of plugs and pin connectors from Amazon along with a sheath to protect the wires. I wound up stripping a bit more insulation from the lights wires and doubling them over to fill a bit more space on the pin connector then wired everything like the video said (the video is excellent by the way). It works great now. I cant speak to whether the light is bright enough for legal use--my wife doesnt drive at night very often. If its not Ill drill out the threads on the bracket and mount lights in the corners. If Artec decide to make a light kit that fits the license plate bracket specifically Ill probably order that and replace the one I purchased here--if only for peace of mind.”
“The LED lights are a must if city driving and look great and clean as well. Just bright enough for the plates to reflect and make the rear legal. Simple install while following along with the YouTube tutorial.”
