Shortening Powder Reviews

Read Augason Farms Reviews

Shortening powder is perfect to use anywhere you would use shortening, for that fluffy and flakey texture people love—especially in pie crusts. The ease with which it blends into other dry ingredients makes mixing a dream, and there’s no need to hydrate it first. Does not require refrigeration, and has a much longer shelf life than ordinary shortening, which can quickly go rancid. These virtues make Augason Farms Shortening Powder ideal for everyday use as well as emergency food storage. I used it to make sugar cookies - the cookies turned out cake like, when i use real butter they are more crispy. I have to say that the cookies are good - i am pleased with the shortening powder. The consistency is not the same as cooking with real shortening but its very acceptable. I will be making breads later this week. I would love to see more recipes that incorporate only food storage items. Augasonfarms - i hope your listening - please give more recipes that only use your products - not everyone has real eggs, fresh milk, or oil - etc. I want to see recipes that use long term dry storage items only.

My Sister-in-Law and I both made biscuits using the shortening powder. She did two separate batches and absolutely loved the results. The shortening powder is ideal for making baking mixes because you use it cup for cup. It's not meant to be reconstituted. My biscuits were great too, a little denser than making them with regular shortening. My regular biscuits tend to be a little crumbly. The shortening powder in the mix tends to help the biscuits hold together better for slicing and adding butter. This is a winner for us. I highly recommend it, give it a try.
