“My last filters were 3 years old, according to Berkey they should be changed roughly every two years, I've found this to be very accurate, and I tested this myself by running the red food dye test and both my filters didn't completely keep out the red colour dye.
I wouldn't have done the test had my mother not silly broken the filters and I fixed it with super glue, but still didn't completely keep out the red dye.
It was still much better then tap water because my Cats & Dogs water bowls never had bubbles in them, as soon as I started using tap water while waiting for my repair solution, we immediatelly noticed a lot of static bubbles in all of the water bowls because of the tap water.
I have no idea what that means, but as soon as I repaired the filters and used them again= No more bubbles.
No real taste difference but the new filters I ordered did indeed pass the food dye test, I really should make a youtube video documenting this next time.
I'm happy and know my family and pets are drinking cleaner water.”
