Vitamin K2 activates a bone protein called osteocalcin, which helps bind calcium. Osteocalcin, produced by bone cells, helps move calcium from the blood into the bones, making them stronger. So, vitamin K2 is vital for bone health by activating osteocalcin and aiding in calcium transfer to the bones.
Vitamin K2 supports cardiovascular health too as a diet deficient in vitamin K can result in reduced activation of certain proteins, which slows calcium removal from the artery walls.
