“The ski is heavier than the conventional ski so those who are after a light ski then you’ll have to pay for it. All round it’s a great entry level ski. It’s made of plastic mainly which is very durable and all the other parts are well made.
I have used my ski for 3 weeks now paddling 8km a day and this ski does it with ease. Great ski for the price”
“Super easy to paddle and very stable. Performs well in the swell. I paddled the race skis in my younger days which took time to master, with the breeze jump in and off you go.
Would recommend getting a kayak caddy if you are needing to carry it more than 50m as it's awkward to carry given the length. Overall excellent and super happy.”
“Almost a year on, I still love my Breeze 5.0. I am 5’8, late 40s and bought this as an absolute novice. I am not at all athletic or ‘sporty’ (can’t ride a push bike!). I paddle socially, mostly in Brisbane Water in NSW and I use it as a kayak and not as a surf ski. It is less stable than a sit on top fishing style kayak but much ‘faster’. I’m no racer, so ‘fast’ for me means light and much easier to paddle than a wider, flatter boat. I have only been thrown off it twice (well, thrice if you include coming off moments after getting back on in a messy swell that I had no business taking on !) in a year of regular use.
The skeg means I have to be a little more careful about staying away from shallows and submerged rocks or branches. (I’m considering getting a flip up rudder and taking the skeg off for exploring creeks and mangroves.) I have also noticed that I’ve scraped the leading edge of the skeg at some point.)
I when the bailer started leaking, I contacted support and Bay Sports replaced the part for me. I could have replaced it myself but had a local guy do it for me. The soft seal on the bailer should be considered a consumable and will need replacing every season at least (and that’s the same with every valve style bailer in every surf ski style craft). Pro-tip: leave the bailer open when you’re not on the water and the seal will last longer (because not constantly compressed).
It’s roughly equivalent to the Epic v7 (which is slightly wider, slightly longer and slightly heavier) but much better value.
I was worried it would be too advanced for a first boat but actually found I grew into it very quickly and, unlike some friends who bought more recreational style tubs, I can’t see myself outgrowing it anytime soon. I do not regret buying this baby new and I can’t see myself moving it along any time soon.”
