Universal Folding Roof Rack Mount J-Bar Kayak Canoe Carrier Reviews

4.3 Rating 12 Reviews
The folding roof rack is a great asset for light kayaks positioned in the near vertical position. However, in my view the point of attachment to a roof bar needs modifying to allow for a more stable and reliable fixing mechanism. Here, I think it would help if the plates above and below the roof bar were at least twice the width as currently, to say 100 ml wide, and that the current two securing plastic wing nut bolts be changed to four bolts with these secure locking nuts and the use of a spanner. This would, of course, be more time consuming when attaching the roof rack, but it would be far more secure and allow even shallow angled support for a kayak with greater confidence in the rack's ability to support the weight of the kayak under more potentially stressful conditions. Apart from that the rack is quite robust and very good value compared with others. I would recommend this product, but only for a very light kayak if alterations aren't made. Alan Oldoyd

It's a good kayak holder, the bad parts are the straps that came with it, they are useless really. Another hard thing is that they are hard to put on and take off, takes a lot of time to screw on/off. Other than that they are excellent.

The racks seem to be good quality and were easy to install. I’m looking forward to putting them to use when the weather warms up a little. Baysport’s price was good, service excellent and delivery fast. What more could you ask?

Had used a few times just quick trips to the beach and no probs but then did a 600km trip to the river. After about 120km my son looked out his window and said “the Yak doesn’t look right Dad”. We pulled over and saw the bracket holding onto the roof rack had bent and was now loose causing the strap to slide off the Yak. Figured it was due to all the trucks we were passing going the opposite direction. Couldn’t fix it either as the plastic wing nut to tighten was completely shattered. And wondering why it isn’t a closed loop at the top for the strap to go through? Just a pain as the strap can come straight out when you are putting the Yak on!

Overall experience and product quality was good, however, these J racks are not suitable for platform roof racks without some modification being made to the platform. This is not a huge issue because the end result is useable and safe. It would be even easier and time saving if longer, 100mm. bolts being available.
