Quest 556 ABS Superlite - 5.56m Double Sit-In Touring Kayak Red Deck/White Hull Reviews

5 Rating 1 Reviews
I bought this tandem kayak to use it in leisurely paddles along the beach with my 13 year old daughter. After testing it, I think it is perfect for that purpose. It is long and wide, so it is very stable. It is also very comfortable. Despite being plastic, it has that shiny look of thermoformed kayaks, which makes it resemble its more expensive composite counterparts. The hatch covers are held in place with bungee cords, which I really like. I'm looking forward to the long days of summer so that I can spend more time paddling along the beach with my daughter. It's a great exercise! One caveat, though: tandem kayaks are notoriously heavy, because they are big and wide. Despite what it's name may suggest, this one is not the exception: it is definitely not superlight. If you are using this with another adult, carrying it between two people is not a problem. If, however, you are using it like me with a partner that is not able to carry 20kg, and you have to do all the moving alone, then it is a struggle to get it to and from places. I ended up buying a Hullavator to assist me in the lifts from the ground to the roof of my car. My consolation is that, being thermoformed, it is - in theory - lighter than what a similarly sized (5.6m) tandem kayak would be if it was rotomolded.
