I'd been mulling over the idea of a go kart for the grand-kids when I had the chance to buy a silly little thing called a Yerf Dog. Complete with 4" of ground clearance, 4 flat tires, worn through ball joints, rusted out muffler, twisted A-frames, broken motor, etc., I reluctantly bought it for $100. It did have suspension. Mine never did and dad got mad every week when he had to take it to the shop for welding repairs.
Hit the internet.
The first thing I found was BDX Performance. I discovered the Holy Grail, a complete refurb kit.
Man, these guys have 15 years of research and development on Yerf Dogs. A person would be nuts not to utilize that.
Took about one week to remove one assembly after another and replace them with high performance, heavy duty parts. The frame has a strong reputation of its own. Full instructions and a complete hardware kit would have cut it down to two days.
Two days to build a new, classic looking beast, with an eternal "cool" factor. Everything in the open makes it super easy to work on.
I saved thousands, tens of thousands of dollars over a used golf cart, quad, side by side, atv or utv, got a brand new machine, and it's more fun.
