“Tenkara fishers would call this a sakasa kebari. These are tied well, though they are a bit rough in the details and won't win any tying contests :). They can be easily skated through the film or at shallow depth - or fished dry with a bit of floatant or deep with added weight or a beadhead dropper. This style of fly is great for a dead drift in most any current. I've used these in red and pheasant to successfully fish tenkara-style for brown, brook, and rainbow trout, plus bass and sunfish.”
“I ordered a few of these in my last... order. Most of the flies I've gotten from BigY are tied with much more precision than these. Mine were pretty ugly. Still caught fish, but the hackles were not pretty. Ordering some more hoping they look better this time around.”
“These are simple flies, but with a tenkara rod that backwards hackle can bring on a strike with a bit of rod action even when I thought the drift was done. I've had good luck with these with everything from native cutthroat to rainbows and northern pike minnow. The red and green have done the best, purple?meh, it never caught a fish before I lost them all. Giving the pheasant tail version a try.”
