“Sturdy feeder, nicely built, squirrels and large birds can’t get into it, I do wish I had bought the legacy model instead though as this one is a bit small, but happy with it, I just have to fill it more often.”

“I’ve bought 4 of these mini feeders in the past 14 years. Three for me & 1 as a gift. They’re well built, but placement is key if you have frequent squirrel & ground squirrel visitors. My shepherd’s hook is tall enough, but it’s a little too close to bushes that some squirrels use as a “stepping stone” to leap up & bang against the feeder before landing on the ground. A good hit can dump enough seed onto the ground to encourage another try! If squirrels try hanging off it, the openings for birds to feed, close easily under their weight. But ground squirrels are a different story. They shimmy up the shepherd’s hook shaft, leap to the feeder, cling to it & empty sections of seeds into their cheeks. I’m now testing a metal Slinky wound around the shaft & attached to hang loosely from the top to baffle chipmunks.”

For persistent ground squirrel activity, a pole-mounted baffle positioned below the feeder may help limit their climbing access.

“We have traded a Duncraft 5lb feeder for a Brome Mini (3/4lb). It is much easier to fill and handle. It helps us not waste so much seed. On a 22" extended pole we still do not have any squirrel activity. The feeder has four chambers the seed runs through around the tube. This helps keep the seed from clumping. We do fill the feeder daily, and 3 of the 4 chambers can be empty. It is very easy to take apart and add seed with one hand. You have to take it apart and refill on a tabletop. It has been a great change and the best size feeder I have seen in the last 20 years. Tiny and Mighty.”

“Great feeder that the squirrels don't like! The feeder has to be away from any tree branches otherwise the squirrel will hang on the branch and wrap around the bottom of the feeder and munch away! I found this out the hard way. Feeder it still in the spruce tree but hanging away from any close branch. I purchased the mini but should have bought the next size. Pleased with the product.”
