Bluebird Feeder in Blue Recycled Plastic Reviews

3 Rating 2 Reviews
I purchased the blue recycled plastic bluebird feeder in an effort to stop starlings and robins from eating 95% of the meal worms on a flat platform feeder. I placed the plastic bluebird feeder on top of the platform, filling the cup with meal worms, and waited for one week and not one bluebird entered the new feeder, nor did any other bird. Prior to the new feeder, a pair of blue birds were feeding five chicks, from the platform feeder, in a nesting box nearby. At the end of a week I went to the nesting box to check the chicks and found all of them dead on the ground under the box. The box is in the back yard near my house and easily seen from the window. In an effort to find out what you might suggest, I called your office twice, the first time leaving a message to return my call and the second time hanging up when asked to leave a message. Three weeks later no one has returned my call. I'm not happy with the new feeder and your company and plan never to do business with you in the future. Please remove my record from your files and discontinue sending me e-mails. Respectfully yours, Bird Nerd

I was excited to find this feeder to help keep Starlings out of the mealworms and give bluebirds a shot at them since they were nesting in my area. Sadly after a lot of trial and error to offer food in this feeder to the smaller birds, the only birds who have entered are Carolina wrens, and just rarely. I tried leaving the sides out until noticed but only Starlings cleaned it out quickly. I tried one side only, I tried clipping the lid up with a gap, I tried clipping the sides up to help show an entry. Again the only bird in as a Carolina wren and it used the entrance hole. I think the interior may be too small for bluebirds to be comfortable going in. Open to suggestions. Mealworms are the food I am using, and bluebirds eat them well if they are offered in another feeder.
