“The orioles don’t seem to be able to drink from the ports. I took the little rubber bug out caps off but still can’t or won’t drink. Not sure what the issue is and they aren’t talking!”
Hi Kay,
Orioles have long, slender bills that are adapted for reaching into flowers and nectar ports. They will insert their bills into the feeding ports of nectar feeders to access the sugary solution inside. Once their bill is inserted into the port, orioles will use their tongues to lap up the nectar. Their tongues have tiny hair-like projections called papillae that help them effectively collect nectar. They may also flick their tongues rapidly to maximize nectar intake. So, even if their bill isn't entering all the way into the port, their long tongue should be able to lap up the nectar.
In order to help keep bees from getting into your nectar feeder, we would recommend putting the bee guards back on the ports. The orioles' tongues should push through the opening on the bee guards to feed.
Thank you,

“We have a lot of Baltimore and Orchard orioles this year and I wanted another feeder. This is a very nice feeder for the price. The Walmart feeders are so cheap and the Wild Birds Unlimited are so expensive and this one is just right.”
“Upon receiving the bird feeder, which took quite a while to get to me via UPS, I was shocked and disappointed to discover that the hook for the feeder did not fit and could not be screwed into the reservior, rendering the feeder unusable. It's hard to imagine how something like this is even possible, and I am now waiting for the replacement parts to arrive.”
Joseph,
The replacement parts for your feeder are on their way. Expected delivery is today via USPS. We hope you enjoy your feeder once receiving the replacement parts.
Thank you,
The Birds Choice Team
“There's nothing to not like about this feeder. It has a place for half an orange, 4 places for grape jelly, 4 nectar openings and bee guards. I have been using this type feeder since 2020. I just ordered my 2nd one as my other one has been through too much windy weather. No orioles yet, but am sure they'll be here soon as the weather warms.”
“This Birds Choice feeder was easy to assemble and seemed sturdy in both design and materials. It held the nectar and jelly securely with no leaking. The feeder has been used regularly for the past month and it’s holding up as well as day one.”
“The Birds Choice - Oriolefest Oriole Bird Feeder for Oranges Jelly and 12 oz Nectar is a beautiful addition to your yard. The color is beautiful and the feeder is easy to set up. Birds have easy access. I will definitely be recommending this to all my friends and family”
“I am so happy with this little feeder. It's lightweight and so easy to clean. It's very versatile and I can feed my Orioles three different ways which is pretty cool. I can put nectar in it or I can put a jelly and half an orange on the top. I have never really been able to attract Orioles until now. This feeder is very lightweight and easy to clean. It is top rack dishwasher safe. It has four ports and four jelly trays. It has a moat which deters and other bugs. I love that it comes with a brass hook already and it is easy to just hang up or you can mount it with directions on the package. If you are a beginner or seasoned bird water I think that this feeder is perfect.”
“This is a good little bird feeder. It is easy to put together and comes with a hanging hook which I appreciate. It also doesn't take up a lot space so it can be put anywhere. I like that you can put oranges or jelly on it. I have it on my porch and the birds seem to be enjoying it.”
