Constructed of heavy duty recycled plastic, it will last a long time. The plastic is 1/2" thick and is solid.
The hinges on the feeder cover appear to be made of brass, so they should not rust.
There are 2 pre-drilled countersunk holes in the back of the feeder for attachment to a tree or post. Also, 4 pre-drilled holes in the base to allow for attachment to a flat, horizontal structure.

“This is a very well built and sturdy squirrel feeder. Since it is as heavy duty as it is I was wondering if the squirrels could raise the lid to get their treats. After a few days I managed to catch a squirrel raising the lid and getting it's peanut.
I am hoping that it holds up to the weather, as it seems to be very well water resistant.
I would recommend this feeder to anyone that love feeding the squirrels in their yard.”

My son and I were excited to go to the pet store and buy some food to put in it. Then we went in out and put it in our garden. We love this thing!”
“First and foremost this didn't come with hardware or directions!
Looking at it it's puzzling how the squirrels are supposed to get the food out with the plexiglass. There is no hole or gap (or directions) to let the food be distributed. So we removed the plexiglass. Essentially this became a covered food house with a ledge. We regularly feed the squirrels and they found this food location quite quickly.
After googling the item extensively we learned the squirrel is supposed to lift the lid and dive in to retrieve the food. So we replaced the plexiglass and watched. The squirrels eventually learned.
A few days later I caught a glimpse of a squirrel at the feeder lifting the lid. I was so happy. Then upon a closer look the box has been chewed up. Apparently not all the squirrels have learned how to use it and have gnawed at it in frustration. :(
Out of the box it appeared to be great quality and craftsmanship but in less than a week it has taken a beating at the expense of the squirrels.”
“We have NUMEROUS, rather large squirrels, when we saw this feeder, we knew that we had to have one. We placed it on our tree, just outside our picture window. The squirrels absolutely love this feeder. With the larger base, they will spend hours up there eating away or until they run out of food. I will definitely get another for the tree in back.
