“I had a larger wooden birds choice pole-mounted feeder that was falling apart which I replaced with this unit. To make the birds "aware" of this unit I left it up next to the old feeder for several days. Smaller birds eventually started using this feeder it but the cardinals, blue jays, and mourning doves all seem to have trouble landing on it. I can watch them fly around it, inspect it, then fly off. Feed types have not changed.
The old feeder has been removed now. I still see the larger birds inspect this platform but outside of a mourning dove standing atop of it it seems like it may be too small for them.
I'm a bit torn on the review score. it is a good quality unit but it is advertised for jays and cardinals and I think the design could be be improved to accommodate them.
If the unit were taller so the side entrances weren't as narrow I think they would use it.
Overall I would like to see a larger version of this feeder. As it frequently rains here I do appreciate the roof platform overhang. It was a feature of the old feeder I looked for in the replacement.”
“Very sturdy, well made. Easy to clean and drains well with the removable mesh bottom. I wanted a feeder that was open and allowed all sizes of birds to enter, and this one does that. The V shaped bottom holds the seeds in well and prevents birds from “sweeping” seed out onto the ground as they look for whatever it is they want. I have noticed way less waste onto the ground with this feeder. I mix a variety of seed and everyone gets what they want!”
