“I’m surprised this is considered a large - it’s much smaller than expected. And there were no previously drilled holes for attaching the flange for a pole mount. Too expensive for what it is.”
Hi Mary,
We're sorry that our description of this feeder was not to your liking. We offer dimensions and weights for our product listings on our website so each customer can come to their own conclusion about each product. We do not predrill any holes in the feeder because flanges come in different shapes and sizes, so predrilled holes may not line up with the flange a customer may want to use. Our recycled plastic material is easy to drill into.
Thank you,
The Birds Choice Team
“I have 2 larger platforms and wanted something smaller, to put out further in the yard. This platform is the perfect size, well made and very easy to mount to a pole. I purchased a galvanized iron floor flange to accommodate a 1/2" pipe. Then purchased 4 flathead stainless wood screws, and a 1/2" x 6" galvanized steel pipe nipple. (Home Depot).
My 1" steel pipe was already in the ground. Just drop your platform pipe into the pipe. Easy to remove for cleaning. I also put a 5-6" rock on top, so that when it gets really windy, the tray doesn't fly out. I also installed a large raccoon baffle on the pole, and hung 1 suet feeder and 1 wire tube feeder with peanut nuggets. Birds are very happy, and I so am I.
I would recommend this tray.”
“I bought this so accommodate a crow family that lives in my neighborhood. The size is great, but the metal bottom does not fit flush and tends to rock. I will probably have to find a solution like hot glue since the holes in the metal mesh are not big enough for outdoor screws. I have gone outside to refill it and found the screen on the ground so not sure if the wind did that or the birds.”
“We have many ground eating birds and they just love using the trough! It also helps keep the seed mess to a minimum in our yard. The product is very well crafted and seems like it will last for years.”
“Using this to make friends with the crows. I feed them the horn worms that infest my garden every year, but I needed a safe place for them away from the garden. Easy to install, but I did have to add two small screws inside the plate to keep the wind from blowing the whole pan out.”
