“This feeder replaces a 12-inch Birds Choice Hanging Classic Bird Feeder with Baffle Weather Guard that I have used for many years. At first, I was skeptical of the Fly-Thru’s open design: I was concerned about squirrel raiding, rain intrusion, and ‘bully bird’ behavior. After over three weeks of daily use and observation, I’ve had no problems with any of these. I keep the tray filled with safflower seed (to deter ever-present grackles) and complement it with a suet log, Nyjer feeder, and bird bath to create a sort of avian recreation area. Design: The feeder’s aesthetics are more appealing than that of my old Classic feeder. Whereas the Classic has a certain utilitarian ‘appliance’ look and feel to it, the Fly-Thru’s open design give the backyard a lighter, airier feel. Functionality: The biggest surprise for me was the instant acceptance of the Fly-Thru by my regular bird customers. Usually, any change in the feeding area leads to a day or two with only a few wary visitors. Not so with the Fly-Thru: the full complement birds returned within 10-15 minutes after the feeder was hung. Another surprise for me is the relaxed atmosphere around the Fly-Thru. Competition for the four perches on the Classic could get nasty at times, but I have not seen any such behavior on the Fly-Thru. In fact, I’ve seen one house finch sitting in the seed with three others calmly snacking while perched on the edges. The impression is that of an al fresco cafe rather than a fast-food joint. Finally, I’ve been impressed by the utility of the Fly-Thru. I see little uneaten seed waste on the ground compared with the Classic. The feeder is fast and easy to clean and refill each day. Bird Attraction: I’m getting my usual assortment of customers: house finches, cardinals, and mourning doves. Durability: I always use a Super-Dome over my main feeder, so this helps keep rain out, but the design of the Fly-Thru seems to do a good job of diverting any rain that gets past the Super-Dome. Windy conditions that cause the feeder to sway don’t cause any seed loss. Overall, I have been impressed by the Fly-Thru and look forward to seeing how it works through the autumn and winter months. Highly recommended!”
“I immediately set it up. It look very pretty with the green background . Most at first sparrows were feeding from it, but now a black capped chickadee was there, and with the cardinals returning after a hiatus, they are now seen inside. I hope to get more migratory birds seen”
“The recycled materials are great! The blue is an uncommon enough color, especially in the recycled materials category. The roof is just large enough where rain doesn't make a mess of the seed. Absolute FANTASTIC feeder!”
“We are very pleased with the Blue Fly-Thru Bird Feeder. It is an attractive deep blue color that looks quite nice in a natural setting. The feeder is lightweight yet feels sturdy. The wire hanger makes it easy to reposition on different branches and feeder poles. Its roof protects the seed well in wet weather. I was concerned that the feeder might be difficult to clean because the metal screen is not removable. This has not been a problem. The feeder is so light and compact it is easy to clean in a sink or with a hose outdoors. The birds took to the feeder within a day. One unexpected benefit has been that the feeder almost exclusively attracts smaller bird species. These include finches, cardinals, black-capped chickadees, and sparrows. We have a larger pole-mounted, uncovered feeder, which is often overrun by city pigeons and squirrels. The compact feeding area of the Blue Fly-Thru Bird Feeder seems to discourage larger birds and even squirrels!”
“I have several of your feeders and like the fly thru bird feeder using shelled peanuts, because the birds are not digging through it until they find what they like. The birds that have been going to it are Sparows, Blue Jays and Woodpeckers. The color of the material is great as well as the construction, Cleaning is easy and rain drains out easy.”
“Really well made feeder, heavy duty and the recycled plastic makes it easy to clean. The stainless steel screen also is a sturdy piece of metal that will make it easy to clean. One plus of the plastic material vs. wood is that it will not swell with the wet weather, so cleaning all the parts is definitely easier. The nuthatches and chickadees have been using the feeder from day one using no mess seed/nut mix.”
“The bird feeder was a hit. When we put it out on our patio all kinds of birds flocked to it immediately. Well designed and would highly recommend to others.”
