“I was a little skeptical at first when it came to this feeder that the squirrels would leave it alone but they haven‚Äôt gone on it once! The birds love it and stay on it for quite some time eating the seed they want. The seed stays dry with the overhead covering and mesh bottom. The material is great that it is recycled plastic and comes in great colors. I have the blue one and it blends in nicely. Can‚Äôt speak highly enough of this feeder!”
“DATE: September 3, 2023 FLY AWAY BIRD FEEDER REVIEW FLY AWAY FEEDER LOCATION: Hanging in Chinquapin Oak Tree DESIGN Blue color blends with the oak tree leaves and complements other feeders hanging in the oak tree. TIPS: To prevent raccoons from tampering (dropping/destroying/removing) the feeder to the ground, we placed a 2/0 chain threw the feeder hanger and attached a snap connecter (1/4" safety spring snap link) to the chain. SUGGESTION: Manufacture the Fly Away in three sizes (small, medium, and large) to accommodate small (chickadee, wrens, warblers), medium (sparrows, house finches, and titmice) and larger (cardinals, jays) birds. FUNCTIONALITY The Fly Away is easily cleaned and contains seed so the wasteful sparrows do not throw the seeds out of the feeder. BIRD ATTRACTION Sparrows, chickadees, cardinals, house finches and a goldfinch have been visiting the feeder. To attract more birds, we add nuts (peanuts, pecans, walnuts) and freeze dried mealworms to the Fly Away Feeder. DURABILITY The Fly Away is a well constructed, heavy duty bird feeder. OVERALL EXPERIENCE Birds are attracted to open feeders. As we observe the birds, we will continue monitoring the Fly Away Birdfeeder. The Fly Away Feeder will be a good starter feeder and it will be an excellent gift feeder. ADDITIONAL TIP The Fly Away could be converted into a multi use (Butterfly/Hummingbird) feeder if you add fruit (whole bananas, apples, limes, lemons etc.) instead of seeds. Fruit feeders not only attract butterflies but they also attract hummingbirds who feed on the gnats that are attracted to the decaying fruit. ..Thanks for allowing us to review the Fly Away feeder.”
“I replaced my tube feeder with the fly through feeder. The birds were initially curious but cautious. After several hours they came to it. The feeder is very small so just House Finches and Lesser Goldfinches are eating from it. The feeder is easy to fill because of the movable lid. The color is ok, I would prefer it in a grey color rather than blue so as not to be quite so eye catching. The feeder is well made and easy to maintain.”
“This is a beautiful and simple feeder. I don't have any of this fly- thru design and I love how easy it is to fill and how easy it is to clean. I also like how visible the birds are--on our traditional feeders they get on the backside that can't be seen from the window but on this feeder they are easier to see.”
“I would like to thank you for the opportunity to participate in the Birds Choice VIP Testing Program. I‚Äôve been very impressed and pleased with all the products that I have purchased from Birds Choice. The new Blue Fly-Thru Bird Feeder meets the expectations that I have learned to expect for Birds Choice products. Design The extensive use of recycled materials was one of the aspects that first caused me to notice Birds Choice products. The new Blue Fly-Thru Feeder is composed of recycled plastic. The individual components of the feeder are quite substantial. That is another factor that caused me to notice Birds Choice products. This feeder is not flimsy; indeed, it is quite substantial. I have no doubt that it would survive unblemished from any encounters with raccoons which are the chief obstacles to our bird feeding/watching efforts. While the design looks remarkably simple, the clean lines and incorporation of wire rope make it elegantly simple. The blue color is attractive, and I do not think it will fade over time. Functionality The separation of the roof from the feeding tray and side supports makes it simple to fill the Blue Fly-Thru Feeder. The ability to raise the roof along the wire rope makes it easier to fill and clean the feeder. Additionally, the feeder holds a substantial amount of bird food. Any rain water that makes its way into the feeder should drain easily out the mesh bottom. Bird Attraction We have several feeders in our yard. The Blue Fly-Th Feeder is the sixth feeder. We filled it with whole, unshelled sunflower seeds along with some small, melt free suet balls. On the first day, I didn‚Äôt see any birds on the feeder itself. Several birds flew near it but didn‚Äôt land. The next day we started seeing birds visiting the feeder. So far, I‚Äôve spotted several birds, House Finches, Northern Cardinals (male and female), and two of my personal favorites ‚Äì the White-breasted Nuthatch and Black-capped Chickadee. I was fortunate to photograph a Black-capped Chickadee on the Blue Fly Through Feeder. I‚Äôve noticed that chickadees rarely stay at a feeder for very long. However, I was able to walk closer and closer to the feeder and got several pics of the Black-capped Chickadee. I‚Äôve included several photos ‚Äì you will need to zoom in to see the Chickadee. I‚Äôve also included several photos of the bird feeder itself in our yard. Although the new Blue Fly Through Feeder is one of many feeders in our yard, it is quite popular. Durability As noted above, this Blue Fly-Thru Feeder is composed of sheets of recycled plastic. They are suitably thick so as to ensure survival with squirrels, raccoons, windstorms, and/or a fall to the ground. I appreciate the inclusion of wire rope to hang the feeder in addition to moving the roof along the wire rope. (It‚Äôs so frustrating to get a feeder and find that a hanger has not been included.). The wire rope is strong enough to secure the feeder, and I‚Äôm not concerned that a bird will be able to sever the wire rope. Overall Experiences The new Blue Fly-Thru Feeder has incorporated form and function quite successfully. As an example, the other day, I visited my brother. He also has several bird feeders around his home. He lives in the country along a river and enjoys a greater variety of birds than our location in the suburbs. However, I was frustrated in my efforts to watch the birds that visited the feeder closest to his house. The plastic had weathered and was opaque. Although there were feeding spots on both sides of the feeder, I could not see the birds on the back of the feeder. That was more than a bit frustrating. It occurred to me that the new Blue Fly-Thru feeder would allow me to see the birds on both sides of the feeder. I plan to purchase one or two of these feeders for my brother when they are available. Again, thank you for allowing me to participate in the Birds Choice VIP Testing Program. I look forward to the next product. Best wishes for continued success.”
“This feeder is a gorgeous blue.I was hoping to attract nuthatchers with peanuts. But I thought wrong.I have seen a small cardinal go through which excited me.But its to small for the blue jays.It looks like it will last forever.”
“This is a nice small-sized feeder for special trays like peanuts, mealworms, or suet balls: anything you want to serve in smaller, controlled quantities. The blue adds a nice pop of color to my garden. I appreciate the easy-open lid; I had a bag of peanuts to fill and could just tilt the bag into the feeder instead of scooping to fill. I like that it‚Äôs easy to empty, too, because sometimes when I‚Äôm gardening I drop grubs I dig up into it for the birds; once the grubs are gone I can just turn the feeder upside down to empty any dirt left behind. It‚Äôs also very lightweight, a bonus for a platform-style feeder, making it manageable for kids and seniors as well.”
