“I love the lightness of this powder sunscreen! The dispenser is easy to use and, with a little practice, goes on evenly without waste. I like that it locks so as not to leak out in my bag. Wish I would have tried this sooner!”
“I am a veteran user of Brush on Block powder sunscreen. I like the brush texture and that it is dark in color so I can easily see the powder and know when to "flick" it. This is my daily sunscreen. I brush it on in the morning as part of my routine and then keep it handy during the day for touch-ups. I will use the SPF40 stick for my arms and the tops of my feet (if wearing sandals). This SPF30 sunscreen is more than sufficient for going out during the day for a short errand or two as long as you don't stand longer than about 2 hours in direct sun. Then I switch to my Brush on Block SPF50 powder (another review).”
“I traveled to Orlando this week to the Disney parks. I do this regularly—4 parks, 1 each day. My go to sunscreen is Coppertone Sport. Between my husband and I, we use an entire container of the spray before the end of the trip. Rather than buy a second can, I thought I’d do a direct comparison. I used the Coppertone the first 3 days. As usual, it worked great, while leaving me unfortunately shiny, I had zero evidence for tan or burn. I used the Brush on Block the 4th day. The weather was the same every day—hot as sin, no rain. I did not ride any water rides. While my arms and legs were fine with the Brush on Block, my face and chest were slightly burned by the end of the day. I assume that sweat was the cause, though I reapplied regularly.
In short, I will keep the Brush on Block as my purse sunscreen for impromptu outings, but will stick with the sweat proof Coppertone for planned outings.”
Hi Kathleen! Each batch of our products are rigorously tested multiple times to provide the listed coverage. We find that most folks having trouble are either not opening the brush to allow powder to flow, or are not applying it long enough on each area to provide even coverage, or they are not re-applying often enough. We'll have a member of our team reach out for application assistance!
“I *hate* sunscreen. I wear SPF swimwear but I still need something for my face. This is like applying mineral makeup. It's so easy, feels great and works like a charm. My kids love it too.
Also the customer service is awesome. They replaced my brush when it broke due to a design flaw. Will purchase again.”
“I like more natural sunblocks but hate that many of them make you look like a mime so I was excited to give this a try. I tried it out for the first time at the lake the other day and it was meh. The powder doesn't consistently come out so you have to keep tapping the brush to get it to flow. And because it's a translucent powder, it's hard to see where it's actually been applied and where it hasn't and because of that I left the day with a slight burn on my legs. It also filled the lines in my face making me look 10 years older. I like the concept, but can't say I love the actuality.”
Thank you for your feedback! We'd like to address some of your concerns and offer some tips on application so that you may have a better experience the next round. :)
Our mineral powder brushes are designed for every day wear mainly for faces, neck, arms, hands, tops of the feet, etc. Although technically you could apply to the whole body, it would take a lot of time and powder to cover completely. We do offer a body product, Bounce Butter ... it is not a powder, but is meant for easy full body coverage.
As you use our brushes, you'll want to be sure that it is in the "open" position, and then give it a couple flicks of your wrist to get it started. The powder self dispenses as you use it with the motion of applying (buffing it on), you should not need to keep shaking it as you go, but I sometimes give mine a little flick between areas of application.
When you apply the mineral powder be sure to divide areas up into smaller sections (like 1/2-face) and apply by buffing in a circular motion for at least 15-seconds per small section. Not a wispy brushing motion, but actually buff it on like you mean it and for long enough so that it is applied evenly to the skin. Be sure to reapply often, at least every 2-hours in the sun and immediately after toweling off.
The powder is not meant to flow out of the bristles, it is designed to flow from the dispenser into the center base of the bristles which then is buffed onto your skin. If it is flying out of the brush, then powder is being wasted.
We do understand that the translucent powder can be difficult to see on some skin tones so as long as you are following the application instructions, you should have complete coverage.
We appreciate you trying it and hope that you'll give it another go. Don't hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service Team if you have any questions.
