Hi Gail! Our moisturizing Sheer Genius lotions may leave a slightly dewy finish initially, depending on how dry/oily your skin is to start with. You may try giving it about 10-15 minutes and then dusting on a makeup powder or applying our mineral sunscreen powders to give it a more matte finish if that's the look you prefer.
The smell you are noticing is the natural mineral actives and other natural ingredients, we do not add masking agents to our face lotions to hide those smells. Most people do not seem to notice it but you may be one of the people who are more sensitive. Similar to how some people can't stand the smell of Lavender or Cilantro and others love it.

It's highly unusual that the Sheer Genius lotion would cause drying or leave a white cast, but we appreciate your feedback, as every customer may have a different experience. :) I'm glad to hear you found a way to make the tone work for you, but I wonder if it's not the application of additional powder that is attributing to the dryness of your skin? You may want give our Universal Tint Sheer Genius lotion a try in the future, it has a nice light tint with absolutely no white cast. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
