“Hello! I don't use this that often. I use it on my arms if I am wearing short sleeves, on tops of my feet in sandals, and on top of my head. Then I use the SPF50 powder for touchups. This cream is my "heavy-duty" weapon against the sun!”
“It works and feels great. But, there's a definite smell. I'd describe it as wet paint, and it was strong enough for me to wonder if something had expired (it hadnt). I powered through it and the smell dissipated as it rubbed in. It is probably related to the minerals and a side effect of not having added fragrances, but it def catches me off guard every time.

Hi Kim! Yes, you are correct! We do not use masking agents in our Sheer Genius lotion, the natural smells of the mineral actives and other ingredients are what you are noticing. Like you mentioned, the smell does dissipate pretty quickly once rubbed in. Some people happen to notice it more than others. “Honestly, I've tried them all. My skin can't handle chemical sunscreens - I break out in a rash - so every time some company promises a translucent mineral sunscreen I buy. Sigh. THIS ONE actually works, no background whiteness, not too shiny, I love it. A little goes a long way! Can't say I'm a fan of the scent (but I'm sensitive on that, too, of course, and always buy unscented). Smell goes away quickly, though, and I have a feeling it's just the ingredients (and like I said I have a hyper-sniffer). I'm so happy I finally found a mineral sunscreen that works and all you see is my own skin!
