i really wanted to like this keyboard more, and really, it's not bad at all. But there are some design decisions that are questionable. Here are my issues and areas that hopefully a second iteration will fix: * Why is this bluetooth? Why not just use a ribbon cable back to the SP's keyboard connector to make it more reliable? This issue is not a biggie, but would be nice. * Why are the edges of this thing so darn sharp? It almost hurts your hands when resting on the edges as you type * Ok, the biggest problem by far, the trackpad is disappointing (even with my other issues, I would give it 5 stars if not for the trackpad). It is far too small, the surface is sticky and not smooth like a MBP or Surface Book (glass, etc.), and performance is choppy (browser scrolling is not jumpy). Perhaps worst of all, the surface of the trackpad is nowhere close to being level with the palm rest, so as you navigate the extremely small trackpad (by today's standards), you keep hitting a very hard and again, very sharp border edge all around the pad. Not fun to use at all. Bottom line, the trackpad is nearly unusable. * The key backlight seems to be completely manual (at least as far as I can tell). Ideally, it should come on as you type (like SP's own cover keyboard) and go out after a period of inactivity to conserve battery. Overall, this is a great idea and as a keyboard, it does function well. But the trackpad really detracts from the overall experience. Hopefully they can move the rows of keys a little closer together and make a little more room to make the trackpad bigger, make it a glass pad, and make it more level with the surrounding palm rest. That would earn a couple of extra stars from me

The design and implementation of the Brydge 12.3 is flawed. 1) If you have Surface Pro 3 (SP3) you need to replace the Rubber Shims yourself, instructions are to peel off the factory installed SP4 rubber shims and insert the Surface Pro 3 shims. This results in poorly adhered shims going forward as new shims are glued onto the remnants of the glue from the factory installed shims...the instructions recommend to do this, "Removing all remaining glue is not essential". 2) Inserting and removing the SP3 into and out of the Brydge 12.3 is terrible, when inserting the Surface Pro into the Brydge the rubber shims catch and peel back off the aluminium hinges (placing the reliability of the rubber shims into questions) making for a frustrating, fiddly, time consuming experience when trying to re-insert the Surface Pro. 3) One I overlooked when purchasing, the Brydge 12.3 design does not allow the keyboard to rotate a full 360°on itself so user can use Surface Pro as a note pad to take notes. One of the Surface Pro value propositions is to allow a User to use the MS pen and take notes as if it was a notepad, instead I have to remove the Surface Pro from Shims! to use as a notebook...if 360°was possible that would make point 2 problem null and void. 4) While at it, why not create somewhere where you can store the pen securely on the Brydge 12.3 missed opportunity. Having said that the keyboard works well overall, but so do most Bluetooth keyboards, Brydge 12.3...execution poor and missed opportunity to make a fantastic device.

This is such a wasted opportunity. All that was needed was to have the keyboard connect via the normal keyboard connector and supply the surface with additional battery life. I have been waiting for a battery keyboard for the Pro 4 since I bought it.

As this is a blue tooth keyboard, it has has a typical lag at times, it would be nice to have same keyboard with a default surface keyboard connector and hopefully no battery required. The keyboard has a great finish and feel solid, would love if there is a additional saving in weight. For those who is looking for the Fn Lock Press Fn and Caps Lock. it will change the Function key mode.

I ordered the QWERTZ layout from Germany and got it realy quick. I not use ten finger writing System but I use booth Hands to write and it feels very good. My Problem with this Keyboard is that the "F-Keys" are on "fn-Status" by Default. I have to Switch with "alt-Caps" once and a while to rearange this. Nice to turn off the trackpad with "fn-left Alt". My second Little Problem is the Trackpad itself. But I Have this Problem with the original Typecover to. If i swipe an will press left or right mousebutton it flows a little away of the clicking Point if I use just one finger. If I use one finger to point and a second finger to click somtimes the touchpad recognize it as zoom in or out. For better workflow i use a wireless Mouse but on the go it is a Little bit anyoing. I don't know why the pressure on the left hinge is greater than on the right. But i can live with this because it is just if you open or rearange the screen angle. It is Possible to turn the screen backwards in but than you can't reach the Corners of the buttom and the hinges are a little bit in screen. It is Pity but that was not a promissed function. The weight and overall feeling of the Keyboard is great. If anyone is crying about the weight, "hey read the technical details befor ordering". I had an Issue with the caps lock Key, it was not in the right Position as I unboxed the Keyboard I thought "oh no, hopefully not broken", but it was just Pop of the holder. I think this is a realy good alternative Keyboard to work better on the go. I Use this and a thin USB 3 Hub that ist fixed to the back of my Surface so i can use more USB Ports.

The keyboard is excellent. Good size. Nice feel. The shortcut keys for all the standard things (volume, brightness, etc) are exactly what you expect. I have not figured out how to do a function lock so I can use the function keys by default. It adds a serious amount of weight to the device, the rubber pieces stick out quite a bit on the keyboard (protects the screen from resting on the keyboard), the rubber pieces on the bottom of the hinge piece do not engage with the desk early enough so you need to hold the keyboard in place or it slides around before it fully opens, and the edges are very sharp (edges on the bottom of the keyboard and around the trackpad). Where it really falls short is the mouse. Even though it is a touch screen device, I have several programs that don't work well with touch (CAD programs mostly) and I need a good trackpad. The trackpad is too small. I am continually lifting my fingers off and shifting them to move the cursor. It also suffers from the same mechanical issue as the type cover. When I click and drag, the button releases about 1/2" from the top edge of the trackpad. I cannot use the all of the small trackpad making it seem even smaller. I am a little concerned that when I close the tablet with the keyboard attached, the hinge puts some pressure on the left side of the screen. I can see some "rainbowing" on the screen as the hinge presses down on the screen. The Surface slides on and off fairly easily and when the system is closed, the fit is tight but again, I wish that the edges were rounded over and not so sharp. The keyboard is made of two pieces screwed together and the fit on my unit is okay. There are obvious gaps where the two pieces meet. I pre-ordered this months ago with no prior experience with the other keyboards. If I had tried it in the store before buying, I probably wouldn't have bought it.

I purchased this Brydge Keyboard in order to transform my Surface Pro 4 into a fully functional laptop. I must say that after a few weeks of getting used to the keyboard, the product delivered. The keys have good travel and the back lighting comes in handy very well. It also makes your laptop look way cooler, so that's a plus! I have used my keyboard for about 4 days straight without having to charge it. My one concern would be the touch pad, it can be very frustrating at times to distinguish between the right and left clicks as it can become "messy" at times. I would say that if you are a person who is considering this product, be aware of what you are getting from the touch pad. But it can also be fixed easily if you use a mouse. Overall, this Brydge 12.3 keyboard has fulfilled all of my expectations and I would definitely recommend this product to anyone.
