The keyboard is excellent. Good size. Nice feel. The shortcut keys for all the standard things (volume, brightness, etc) are exactly what you expect. I have not figured out how to do a function lock so I can use the function keys by default. It adds a serious amount of weight to the device, the rubber pieces stick out quite a bit on the keyboard (protects the screen from resting on the keyboard), the rubber pieces on the bottom of the hinge piece do not engage with the desk early enough so you need to hold the keyboard in place or it slides around before it fully opens, and the edges are very sharp (edges on the bottom of the keyboard and around the trackpad). Where it really falls short is the mouse. Even though it is a touch screen device, I have several programs that don't work well with touch (CAD programs mostly) and I need a good trackpad. The trackpad is too small. I am continually lifting my fingers off and shifting them to move the cursor. It also suffers from the same mechanical issue as the type cover. When I click and drag, the button releases about 1/2" from the top edge of the trackpad. I cannot use the all of the small trackpad making it seem even smaller. I am a little concerned that when I close the tablet with the keyboard attached, the hinge puts some pressure on the left side of the screen. I can see some "rainbowing" on the screen as the hinge presses down on the screen. The Surface slides on and off fairly easily and when the system is closed, the fit is tight but again, I wish that the edges were rounded over and not so sharp. The keyboard is made of two pieces screwed together and the fit on my unit is okay. There are obvious gaps where the two pieces meet. I pre-ordered this months ago with no prior experience with the other keyboards. If I had tried it in the store before buying, I probably wouldn't have bought it.

The hinges are very strong, Bluetooth is always disconnecting and the overall design is very ugly, could be better looking :-(

I bought one from Best Buy but after a week of using it I returned it. I found tht the Trackpad would just stop working and I would have to hit the FN + Alt to turn it off and then on again. If I used it all the time in work well. But once I stopped I had to restart. This got annoying and for $150.00 I did not think it was worth it and it was returned.

I hate to give this a negative review, because it's really a nice keyboard. But I'm left-handed and often use a mouse or trackball with my Surface 3, so I've configured Windows to swap the primary and secondary buttons on the mouse via Control Panel. In this swapped mode, the click functions don't work on the trackpad. The support folks verified the problem but said it was a Windows/bluetooth issue, though I haven't found anything about this on the web. I tried to figure out a workaround by just un-swapping when I want to work with the trackpad. But if you've left the system swapped and don't have a mouse, then you have to figure out how to change the control panel setting without a means to click, which is extremely painful. Plus, even with the mouse un-swapped, I'm not fond of the method for right-clicking based on clicking the right side of the trackpad. Your finger ends up wherever it ends up from moving the cursor on the screen. Having to then re-position your finger to get the proper kind of click is a pain. A two-fingered tap to get a right-click would be much easier and more consistent with other trackpads. I also suspect that this "feature" is behind the problem with the swapped-mouse issue. So I ended up returning the keyboard, reluctantly. If someone figures out how to make the trackpad work in left-handed mode, maybe I'll give it another try.

So the keyboard and the holder for the Surface pro 4 are fantastic. The touch pad is taking some time to get used to as the click action is very different from other touch pads I have used Firmer than the MSFT keyboard which is great, but not as smooth and simple as say a touch pad on the MacBook. I think I will get used to it in a few more weeks, but it is way better than what I was using before. My only two dings on the design are the menu key would have been handy to have and it is not present so you have to use the touch pad to right click. The other ding is the rubber bumper on the keyboard outer edge creates a bit of pressure point so when I was a bit of a clutz and dropped my surface while it was closed the surface screen shatter right at the place where the keyboard bumper touches the screen. The real problem of course was the drop but the mechanical stress point from the small bumper probably did not help to situation.

What a diiference from the Microsoft keyboard, with a better typing experience for nearly the same price. It makes my SP3 feel so much better with the added weight. As mentioned in other reviews having a proper hinge makes it more versatile by not having to rely on a largish surface to extend the kick stand. Only reduced to four stars as the keyboard layout is international. While the "£@ are marked on the appropriate keys ~# are not and I cannot find \. The enter key takes a little getting used to as it is horizontal rather than vertical or L shaped. Overall well worth the money and highly recomended
