Finally--where was this 3 years ago when I got my SP3?? Now it's truly "lapable" and I can use the surface easily while lying in bed or on the couch. Love the sturdiness, the hinge, and the design. Keys are fine - higher key travel than the type cover. Not as great a keyboard as my Thinkpads but then nothing is. Agree with previous reviewer that the trackpad is a bit disappointing - scrolling is nowhere near as smooth. Maybe as I break it in the surface will get shinier and easier to slide around on? Also agree that the reversed scrolling direction will take some time to get used to. But other than trackpad issues, this thing is great! I used to have Surface Book envy but now I definitely don't as this is the best of both worlds.

I am among the early users of the SP3. Ever since its launching I believe this kind of computers are going to be popular. I like most of the things except 2: the fragile keyboard and the kickstand. I was very happy about the SP4, which fixed lots of the draw backs of SP3, and the most important one is the improved keyboard. However, the kickstand remains troublesome. I can’t agree more with the second video showing the weakness of kickstand. My SP3 falls off my knees and my desk many times because of the failure of kickstand. Ever since I brought it from the summer 3 years ago, I was trying to fix this problem. I tried using a Bluetooth keyboard as a stand, or putting something under the kickstand, and I even tried to make a stand by cardboard hooks and rope but nothing is elegant. I really don’t understand why many companies copies the kickstand design. It is ironical that lapability is introduced by MS but kickstand is the design with the least lapability. Finally, after 3 years wait, brydge introduced this keyboard. After I read the news from the CES 2017, I immediately rushed out to pre-order. And finally, it arrived. The only thing I want to complain is I have to DIY a little bit to make it work with SP3, because it was set up to work with SP4 out of box. After that, everything works perfect. This is what I want.

I've been looking forward to the Brydge 12.3 for the past couple of months. I picked one up today and here are my first impressions. I'm also comparing to the SP4 keyboard. 1.) It's heavy - I'm guessing it's as heavy as needed to keep the surface from tipping over. 2.) The trackpad is too small - Coming from the SP4 keyboard, it's a noticeable difference. 3.) The trackpad does not glide as well as the SP4, I mean the physical touch. 4.) Scrolling with the trackpad does not seem to scroll the page as smoothly as the SP4. 5.) It's noisy - Typing in bed with someone sleeping next to you is much louder than the SP4. 6.) Lapability is still uncomfortable because you can feel the 2 hinges digging into your legs. 7.) The keys seem to skip when typing - seems to be mostly the home row 8.) There is no custom driver software - switching the scroll direction required a registry change as it was backwards. After reading what I just wrote, I guess I would say I am disappointed, but in the end it does make the surface a clam shell type laptop like it claims. Hopefully with some more use it will grow on me.

Wow the shipping was fast. I am in Singapore and today I came home and found this large box sitting on my desk. I excitedly ripped open the box and opened the packaging and tried to squeeze my Surface Pro 3 into it and it could not fit. I read the instructions and it said that I had to replace the shims on the hinges with those of Surface Pro 3. Oh that was an anti-climax but I ripped out the rubberised shims which was stuck to the hingest using 3M tape....and replaced it. My review: It is kinda heavy, but the fact that now I have an actual laptop thingy its a tiny inconvenience. I am typing this review using the keyboard and the backlit keys work well. The key travel was a bit deeper than I was used to on my Type cover so I had to do some retraining to get my touch typing back up to speed. The MS Type cover typing was fantastic....the Brydge felt a bit strange to me. But I will get used to it. Hope the battery life is good. The touch pad felt surprisingly responsive but not as responsive as the one on my original type cover....but definitely better than many keyboard touchpads...so kudos to the team. I have one complaint though and that the touch pad is really small compared to even the one on the type cover. I'll bet SP4 users who are used to their larger touchpad will find this a bit disappointing. Built quality was excellent and sturdy. But I do worry about the hinge on which everything depends. Hope that it will last a loooooong time. Its quite tight for my surface pro 3 and it is a bit touch to remove the screen. Anyway I work in cramped spaces so not using the kickstand is a great big bonus to me. Anyway 4 out of 5 stars.

As a college student I was looking for something that would allow me to have a laptop experience, yet still have an option to have something that does well with notes. My Surface Pro 3 combined with the Brydge 12.3 gives me that exact thing. It allows me to use a laptop when I'm at work or need to do work in the cramped school desks and also allows me to detach and take notes. This is a perfect replacement for the Surface book at nearly half the cost.

I've been waiting for this day for a while now, can't wait for it to arrive. I have one for the 12 inch iPad Pro and I have to tell you it rocks, I think I might have every iPad keyboard ever made (yes I'm crazy) Brydge is by far the best one I ever owned. I'm certain the one for my Surface Pro 4 is gonna rock.

The SP4 is an amazing tablet, but the Type Cover has frustrated me ever since I bought it. My 12.3 arrived yesterday and has blown be away, the quality is exceptional and design is brilliant. Most importantly though I can finally between tablet and laptop with ease whether I'm at my desk, on the bus heading to work or on the couch at home. This is the best upgrade for my Surface ever.
